What’s up everyone and happy Monday! This week kicks off a bit of a new format we have at FanCave, as we are going to separate FanCave Favorites and MLB Breakdowns.
Chris will be covering the breakdowns, which will be a more thorough and comprehensive analysis, while FanCave Favorites will be 2-3 locks that we are looking to build our lineups around. They are a great starting point for roster construction and also give you an idea of teams to target.
For today’s edition of FanCave Favorites, we only have a 4-game main slate so I will offer the three players that I intend to build all of my lineups around. With no stud pitching, we can also afford some more high-priced bats than usual, making one of my favs a premier spend. Below are my FanCave Favorites for tonight’s slate:
Mike Trout (FanDuel – $5,500 / DraftKings – $6,000)
If I had the salary, Trout would be in my lineup every single day. There’s nothing that he can’t do and he comes in with a super favorable spot against LHP Danny Duffy tonight. Duffy has been in better form over the last two weeks than he was in the beginning of the season, but he is still allowing 0.393 wOBA to right-handed batters while surrendering 13 home runs (7 of which have come on the road) over 50.1 innings. His 39.9% hard-contact percentage is alarming and if you pair that with his fly-ball rate of 45.1%, you have a gas can ready to explode.
Trout needs little to no explanation, but to unnecessarily help his case, he rocks a career 0.405 wOBA and 0.241 wOBA against left-handed pitching. He’s also 5-12 against Duffy in his career with 2 XBHs.
Ian Kinsler (FanDuel – $2,800 / DraftKings – $3,900)
Piggy-backing off of the Trout blurb, Kinsler comes in as another Angel that I am locking into my lineup tonight. He has been scorching in the lead-off spot over the last two weeks. Aside from his 0-4 game last night, he’s racked up 11 hits in his last 5 games (5 being for extra bases) and has raised his previous sub-.200 batting average to 0.217. He also owns a career 0.375 wOBA and 0.203 ISO against left-handed pitching and has enough speed upside to be a threat on the base-paths.
I strongly recommend pairing the likely 1-2 of the Angels lineup against Duffy tonight, and it’s very doable with the lack of stud pitching.
John Ryan Murphy (FanDuel – $2,600 / DraftKings – $3,700)
My third and final FanCave Favorite of the day will hopefully come with a little less ownership. Aside from Kinsler, JR Murphy may be the hottest player in baseball and yes, you read that right. He went 0-4 last game, but prior to that outing, he had homered in 3 straight games while piling up 6 hits in that span and averaging 24.93 FDP.
He’ll step into the box tonight against LHP Derek Holland, who has been a target for DFS players for the last number of years. On the season against right-handed batters, he is surrendering a 0.358 wOBA and has given up all 9 of his home runs to righties, catering to Murphy’s strength (0.487 wOBA and 0.459 ISO).
He will likely hit 4-5th tonight against Holland and at a discounted price, he helps you squeeze in even more studs than the lack of pitching already does.
