Hello everyone, I hope Monday isn’t treating you all that bad! Tonight is day 5 of the NHL playoffs and should be nothing less than exciting. Last night, the Wild stormed into game 3 and put up 6 goals to beat the Jets 6-2 and make the series 2-1 Jets. The PIT vs PHI series is back and forth with high scoring wins, so it was the Penguins turn and they won 5-1 to take a 2-1 series lead. Out of the 4 games last night, the Columbus vs Washington and Kings vs Golden Knights were the two most entertaining as Columbus roared back to beat the Caps in OT, while the Golden Knights topped the Kings 3-2 to take a 3-0 series lead. Tonight, we have 4 games and a couple teams looking to get their first win of the series. Let’s take a look at those 4 matchups and their start times:
BOS@ TOR 7:00pm
TB@ NJ 7:30pm
NSH@ COL 10:00pm
ANH@ SJ 10:30pm
All 4 games have a team 2-0 in the series, while the opposition sits at 0-2. Toronto, New Jersey, Colorado, Anaheim all will look to get their first win of the series tonight. My favorite teams tonight are Boston and San Jose. Now lets look at my plays of the day for this 4 game slate:
Favorite Center Plays:
Patrice Bergeron @ Toronto Maple Leafs ($8100 FD)
Give me all Boston again tonight against the Maple Leafs. Even though the Leafs are now at home, I just didn’t see enough drive in them these past two games and I expect the Bruins to steam roll them yet again. Bergeron has 5 assists through the first two playoff games.
Steven Stamkos @ New Jersey Devils ($8400 FD)
The Lightning have a 2-0 series lead on the Devils and are playing in New Jersey for the next 2 games. Stamkos has 2 assists through the first two playoff games and I am expecting him to find the score sheet again tonight.
Nathan MacKinnon vs Nashville Predators ($8300 FD)
The Avalanche now get to play two at home, which are must have wins for this Colorado team as they trail 0-2 in the series. You know I love MacKinnon at home and I am expecting a good outing by him tonight. He has a goal and 2 assists through the first two games of the series.
Joe Pavelski vs Anaheim Ducks ($7300 FD)
The Sharks have a 2-0 series lead and are at home tonight for game 3. Pavelski has three assists through the first 2 games of the series and I am looking for him to build on that as I expect the Sharks to take this game and a 3-0 series lead.
Good Center Plays:
Auston Matthews vs Boston Bruins ($7600 FD)
I have not been pleased with Matthews through the first 2 games of this series. He hasn’t found the score sheet and has also played very poorly defensively. I do think that he has a much better game tonight at home, but I still have the Bruins taking this game fairly easy and getting to a 3-0 series lead.
Brayden Point @ New Jersey Devils ($6400 FD)
The Lightning have a 2-0 series lead and are in Jersey tonight for game 3. Point has looked very good and fresh through the first 2 games, posting a goal and 2 assists. Look for him to play very well again tonight.
Value Center Plays:
Kyle Turris vs Colorado Avalanche ($5600 FD)
I like Colorado in this matchup tonight as they are now on home ice, but I do feel that the second line with Turris will be the goal scoring line tonight for the Predators. Turris only has 1 assists through the first 2 games but I am expecting him to expand on that tonight in Colorado.
Favorite Winger Plays:
Nikita Kucherov vs New Jersey Devils ($8700 FD)
I still love me some Kucherov. You can’t go wrong playing this guy. He has 2 goals and 2 assists through the first 2 games of the series. I wouldn’t be the least surprised if he finds the score sheet yet again. This should be a better game tonight than the first two of the series.
Brad Marchand vs Toronto Maple Leafs ($7900 FD)
Brad Marchand and the Boston Bruins are must plays without a doubt tonight. The Maple Leafs look extremely defeated after getting trampled in the first two games. He has 1 goal and 5 assists through the first 2 games and shows no signs of slowing down. Stack him and Pastrnak again tonight!
David Pastrnak vs Toronto Maple Leafs ($7600 FD)
Pastrnak went off the other night, posting 3 goals and 3 assists. He looked amazing as the Bruins swamped the Maple Leafs yet again. He has 4 goals and 5 assists through the first two games of the series and I expect him to add to those totals yet again tonight in Toronto.
Taylor Hall @ Tampa Bay Lightning ($8000 FD)
I am expecting a very good game out of Hall and the Devils tonight as they get on home ice down 0-2 in the series. Hall has 1 goal and 1 assists through the first two games of the series, which isn’t bad but you will need more out of your top guy to come out on top of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Good Winger Plays:
Evander Kane vs Anaheim Ducks ($6900 FD)
The Sharks have a 2-0 series lead on the Ducks and are on home ice again tonight. Kane has 2 goals through the first 2 games of the series and has looked very good when on the ice. I like the Sharks chances of getting this series to 3-0 tonight with help from Evander Kane.
Viktor Arvidsson @ Colorado Avalanche ($6400 FD)
As I mentioned above, I like the Avalanche more tonight but I am expecting this game to be a 3-2 or 4-3 type game. Arvidsson should find the score sheet tonight and is a fairly good price at $6400.
Mikko Rantanen vs Nashville Predators ($6600 FD)
Rantanen has been fairly quiet through the first 2 games of the series, only managing 1 assist. I do expect more from him tonight as the Avalanche get game 3 and 4 on home ice. This should be a fun game tonight and a fairly close one unlike the previous two games this past week.
Value Winger Plays:
Kyle Palmieri vs Tampa Bay Lightning ($4200 FD)
Kyle Palmieri has been almost invisible through the first 2 games of the series other than posting 4 penalty minutes. I think being on home ice will turn that around tonight and I am looking for him and Hall to get things going tonight.
Tyler Johnson @ New Jersey Devils ($5100 FD)
I am expecting this game against the Devils to be a very good and exciting one. This one easily could be a 4-3 game in favor of either team. Johnson has 2 goals and 1 assist thus far in the playoffs through 2 games. Might be a sneaky play along with Point tonight in New Jersey.
Favorite Defenseman Plays:
Roman Josi vs Colorado Avalanche ($6300 FD)
Josi is averaging about 25 minutes of ice time through the first two games of the series. He has 1 assists and 5 shots on goal which isn’t much but as long as he keeps blocking shots and shooting the puck he will meet or exceed value.
Brent Burns vs Anaheim Ducks ($7300 FD)
Burns is of course still the most expensive D man on the slate tonight. He has been relatively quiet thus far with 1 goal through two games but he also has 10 shots which makes for pretty good FD numbers with the goal. Sharks should take this game 3 against the Ducks in fairly easy fashion.
Tyson Barrie vs Nashville Predators ($5600 FD)
Barrie has 2 assists through the first 2 games of the series but I expect him to look way better tonight as the Avs get their first chance at home. It’s no secret the Avalanche play their best hockey at home and I think we will see evidence of that tonight.
Good Defenseman Play:
Ryan McDonagh @ New Jersey Devils ($4700 FD)
McDonagh has three assists through the first 2 games of the series against the Devils. He is a very good price and if he just gets 1 assists he automatically reaches value. Also gets some good stat stuffing from shots on goal and blocked shots as well.
Value Defenseman Plays
Brandon Montour @ San Jose Sharks ($3600 FD)
Montour is almost back at minimum price on fanduel and I feel like he can easily exceed value tonight in this game 3. Playing a defenseman this cheap can really help you out towards paying up for offensive elites like Marchand, Pastrnak, etc.
Favorite Goalie Plays:
Tukka Rask @ Toronto Maple Leafs ($9000 FD)
I know some might not like playing an away goalie in Toronto but I watched the last game on Saturday night and the Maple Leafs looked terrible. Yea they may get a home ice spark but I still expect Rask and the Bruins to come out on top tonight. Rask is 2-0 in the series with a 2.00 GAA.
Martin Jones vs Anaheim Ducks ($8600 FD)
Jones has looked spectacular through the first two games of the series and is 2-0 with a 1.00 GAA. Home ice tonight and the Sharks will look to take a 3-0 series lead. I expect another good game out of him again tonight.
