Now that the craziness of opening day is over, it is time to get back to the grind. Here are some of my favorite plays for todays MLB slate.
Pitcher – Kyle Hendricks – $9,900 (DK) $8,200 (FD)
Hendricks is facing the thinnest lineup in the MLB tonight, and you are getting him at a value price relative to his matchup. Hendricks has a career 50% ground-ball rate, and should induce many grounders and whiffs tonight. Probably the safest cash pitcher on both sites, Kendricks is a must play in my eyes.
Catcher – Brian McCann – $3,400 (DK) $2,300 (FD)
Going up against disaster-artist, Doug Fister, McCann has a very good matchup tonight. McCann has good splits against righties in his career, slashing .267/.346/.469 and posting a .349 wOBA. He isn’t a sexy play, but he makes sense for both cash and GPPs.
First Base – Carlos Santana – $4,200 (DK) $3,200 (FD)
Carlos Santana may not find himself in a better spot all season. He is facing Mike Foltynewicz, who can’t pitch to left-handed batters to save his life. Not only is it a good pitcher matchup for Santana, but SunTrust park is an absolute launchpad for left-handed batters. Expect the Phillies to put up a lop-sided score tonight in Atlanta, and expect Santana to be a big part of that.
Shortstop – Didi Gregorious – $3,900 (DK) $3,500 (FD)
Didi is in a great spot tonight vs. Toronto, and makes a lot of sense whether you plan on stacking the Yankees or not. I actually like this matchup for Aaron Sanchez, but Gregorious has one of the most favorable matchups for any Yankee batter tonight. Didi posted a .228 ISO and a .348 wOBA last year against righties. He is a good play in both cash and GPPs.
Third Base – Scott Kingrey – $3,000 (DK) $2,500 (FD)
The hype is real around Kingrey, and I am buying in. After posting a massive spring, the Phillies put him on the opening day roster and he will be making his first MLB start tonight. With an extremely favorable matchup and a cheap price, roster him while he is still cheap.
Outfield – Aaron Judge – $5,100 (DK) $4,200 (FD)
Judge is expensive, but rightfully so tonight. After Stanton’s big Yankee debut, Judge may go over looked in a good matchup tonight. Last year, Judge had a .369 ISO and a .440 wOBA against righties. He is worth paying the price for tonight, and I would not be surprised if he has a multi-homer game.
