3/28/2018: MLB Opening Day Plays of the Day

Opening Day is finally here! I go over some of my favorite plays on the slate.

First Base/Catcher – Logan Morrison – $4,100 (DK)$2,500 (FD)

Although I like Dylan Bundy in this spot more than most, Morrison just makes too much sense. You are getting him for an insane value on Fanduel, and should see him low owned on both sites. Morrison pounded righties last year while putting up a .298 ISO and a .548 slugging % against them. In a potential slugfest, I want Morrison in my GPP lineups tomorrow.

Second Base – Jed Lowrie – $3,800 (DK) $2,300 (FD)

Lowrie is one of my favorite GPP plays of the day. The A’s don’t have one of the easiest match-ups against Garret Richards tomorrow, but Lowrie is worth a dart throw. Against righties last year at home, Lowrie slashed .281/.354/.471 with a wRC+ of 122. He is low risk, high reward play tomorrow and deserves a serious look.

Shortstop – Carlos Correa – $4,900 (DK) $4,000 (FD)

Correa is expensive, but this matchup is just too juicy for me. Correa slugged .609 against lefties last year and put up a .445 wOBA against them. It is also worth noting that the weather should be favorable tomorrow for this game with the wind gusting out to right center, where Correa has shown he has power. Play him. Don’t overthink it. Cole Hamels is a donkey.

Third Base – Manny Machado – (DK ONLY) – $4,800

*Draftkings still has him listed as a 3B for some reason.

Right handed hitters feast off of Jake Odorizzi. Manny Machado feasts off of righties at home. Machado vs righties at home in his career: .366 wOBA, .233 ISO, and a 129 wRC+.

Machado is entering a contract year and playing what is likely his last home opener at Camden Yards. Play him. Print money. Repeat.

Outfield – Nick Williams – $3,500 (DK) $2,000 (FD)

Here is a good GPP and cash play for you. Julio Teheran gets torched by lefties. SunTrust park is one of the best ballparks for left-handed hitters, and Nick Williams is seeing a great matchup here. I am expecting a big year out of Williams, and he is in a great spot and is underpriced on both sites. Strike while the iron is hot.

Pitcher – Luis Severino – $10,600 (DK) $10,000 (FD)

Severino is by far my favorite GPP pitcher on the slate. Facing a free swinging Toronto team, he has legitimate 10-12 strikeout upside. Lefties can hold their own against the big right-hander, but righties were held to a measly 24.9% hard contact rate last year. I love this spot for him and think the is underpriced on both sites.
