NHL DFS Breakdown (3/14)

Happy Wednesday everyone and I hope you all had a good night of DFS yesterday! Tonight, we have a pretty good 5 game slate on hand and some good matchups with teams on a back to back. Lock is at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT. I will list my plays of the day with a few details but if you want more help on plays then you need to be in our slack chat! Here are the 5 matchups tonight and their start times (Eastern Time):

DAL@ TOR 7:00pm
PIT@ NYR 8:00pm
SJ@ EDM 9:30pm
VAN@ ANH 10:00pm
NJ@ VGK 10:00pm

My favorite matchups are PIT@NYR and VAN@ANH. All of these games have some serious potential to be high scoring and hopefully it goes in favor of us. Now let’s move into the plays of the day!

Top Plays:

Ryan Getzlaf vs Vancouver Canucks  ($7600 FD)

Getzlaf is my favorite center on this 5 game slate tonight. He has 3 goals and 13 assists in his last 10 games for the Ducks. With a matchup on home ice against the Vancouver Canucks, Getzlaf and the first line should have a very good night all the way around. He scored once and recorded 2 assists in January, when the last time the Canucks and Ducks met.

Evgeni Malkin @ New York Rangers ($9200 FD)

Malkin is one of the hottest players in the league right now and I expect him to continue his hot streak tonight against the New York Rangers. Giorgev is in net again tonight and despite playing well in his last game, I like the chances of the Penguins and Malkin tonight.

Joe Pavelski @ Edmonton Oilers ($7300 FD)

Pavelski has been on fire for the San Jose Sharks recently, managing 3 goals and 7 assists over his last 8 games. The Oilers are on the 2nd of a back to back tonight, after losing 1-0 against the Flames. Great play and great line 1 stack option tonight.

 Good Plays:

Tyler Seguin @ Toronto Maple Leafs ($8500 FD)

Seguin should be relatively low owned tonight as the Stars have been struggling late and are on the second of a back to back. He has double digit FD points in 9 of his last 10 games, even though the Stars haven’t been very good as of late.

Sidney Crosby @ New York Rangers ($8800 FD)

I like the Malkin line more tonight but if the Penguins get on the power play both become equally valuable. Crosby and Malkin are so good and it is hard to choose which will be better but the 2nd line has been the better one recently and I would prefer to roll with them but I couldn’t fault you for going Crosby at all or both (if you want to spend up on centers)

William Karlsson vs New Jersey Devils ($7400 FD)

Karlsson has played very well recently and especially in his last 3 games, where he has recorded a goal and 2 assists. Very good matchup tonight against the Devils and more importantly it is on home ice, where Vegas has been its best.

Value Plays:

Nazem Kadri vs Dallas Stars ($6400 FD)

I like the second line for the Maple Leafs rather than the 1st line. Kadri with Komorov really could be a very good line tonight against the Stars, who played last night and lost 4-2 against the Canadiens.

Top Plays:

Patric Hornqvist @ New York Rangers ($6300 FD)

Hornqvist has a goal in each of the last 2 Penguins games. He also has 12 shots over his last 2 games as well. Great matchup tonight against the Rangers in which he should find the score sheet yet again.

Rickard Rakell vs Vancouver Canucks ($7100 FD)

Rakell really let me down the other night and I expect him to rebound nicely tonight as well as Getzlaf. Great matchup on home ice against the Canucks tonight. He recorded 1 goal and 1 assist last game against the Canucks in January.

Evander Kane @ Edmonton Oilers ($6500 FD)

Kane recorded an assist and 5 shots on goal on Monday against the Red Wings. I like this first line a lot tonight against the Oilers, who are on their second game of a back to back after losing 1-0 last night.

Good Plays:

Alexander Radulov @ Toronto Maple Leafs ($6300 FD)

Radulov continues to be the hardest working player for the Dallas Stars and got rewarded on the power play a few nights ago against the Penguins and then found the score sheet again last night with an assist to Jamie Benn on the PP.

Jonathan Marchessault vs New Jersey Devils ($7300 FD)

March hasn’t been able to find the score sheet over the past week and a half but he continues to fire the puck at the net over 4 times a game and will eventually find the back of the net.

Value Plays:

Joonas Donskoi @ Edmonton Oilers ($4300 FD)

Donskoi scored on Monday against the Red Wings and looked very comfortable on that first line yet again. Great price still for Donskoi and I really like this first line for the Sharks tonight against the Oilers on a back to back.

Alex Tuch vs New Jersey Devils ($3800 FD)

It looks like Tuch will remain on the Vegas first line again tonight along with Marchessault and Karlsson. He didn’t do much last game but with a better matchup tonight, I expect him to find the score sheet tonight.

Leo Komarov vs Dallas Stars ($3500 FD)

Great option at minimum fanduel price. When we played him the other night, he got 32.5 FD points. Stars are on the 2nd night of a back to back and if the Stars play like they have recently, Toronto is going to have a field day with them.

Top Plays:

Kris Letang @ New York Rangers ($6200 FD)

I really like Letang tonight against the Rangers over Burns but both are great options tonight. There is a chance that he finds the score sheet multiple times tonight as he has done before many times. Great opportunity against the Rangers tonight.

Brent Burns @ Edmonton Oilers ($7000 FD)

Burns hasn’t played up to his standard over the last 2 games but I’m liking his chances tonight against the Oilers. He has 30 blocked shots over his last 9 games which is an incredible number for such short a period of time while also adding on 29 shots on goal in that same span.

Good Plays:

Justin Schultz @ New York Rangers ($4600 FD)

Schultz is a very consistent defenseman for the Penguins. Provides great defensive support while also getting involved offensively. He gets a good amount of blocked shots per game which is a good fantasy point stuffer.

Cam Fowler vs Vancouver Canucks ($4900 FD)

Fowler hasn’t produced much lately so his price continues to decrease and is now at 4900. That’s an all time low for him and makes him a very good play tonight against the Canucks.

Value Plays:

Brandon Montour vs Vancouver Canucks ($3800 FD)

Montour is so valuable at his price because of the amount of minutes he plays per game. He recorded 1 assist, 3 shots, and 1 blocked shot against the Blues on Monday. Anaheim has a great matchup tonight and Montour should do well again.

Top Plays:

John Gibson vs Vancouver Canucks ($8300 FD)

Gibson is coming off 2 straight games where he has given up 4 goals. Tonight is a good chance to rebound for Gibson in a matchup on home ice against the Vancouver Canucks, who are struggling really bad without Boeser in the lineup.

Good Plays:

Martin Jones @ Edmonton Oilers ($8500 FD)

Jones has played pretty well over his last 8 games despite having a 4-3-1 record. He has a 2.15 GAA average over that span which isn’t bad at all, he just hasn’t been getting the normal offensive support as of late. The Sharks are heading into Edmonton rested, while the Oilers played last night and were held off the score sheet in a 1-0 loss against the Flames.

Value Plays:

Casey DeSmith @ New York Rangers ($7700 FD)

DeSmith looks to be the starter tonight for the Penguins against the Rangers. Make sure that he is confirmed before the game starts just to be safe. He is coming off a 17 save win against the Stars a few nights ago. Even though the Rangers have started to pick it up a little bit, the Penguins have looked played very good lately as well.

My Favorite GPP Stacks:

PIT 2- Malkin/Hornqvist/Hagelin

SJ 1- Pavelski/Donskoi/Kane

Possible Low Owned Stacks:

TOR 2-Kadri/Komorov/Marleau

DAL 1- Seguin/Radulov/Benn
