NHL DFS Breakdown (3/9)

Hello everyone and thank goodness its Friday! Tonight, we have a smaller 4 game slate and some decent matchups. Lock is at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT.  I will list my plays of the day with a few details but if you want more help on plays then you need to be in our slack chat! Here are the 4 matchups tonight and their start times (Eastern Time):

DET@ CLS 7:00pm
CGY@ OTT 7:30pm
ANH@ DAL 8:30pm
MIN@ VAN 10:30pm

CENTERS

Top Plays:

Tyler Seguin vs Anaheim Ducks ($8300 FD)

Tuesday game against the Predators was the first game since the 21st of February where he didn’t score over 15 FD points. He didn’t score in his last matchup against the Ducks, but he did record 5 shots on goal for 8 FD points. He is on a line with Radulov and Janmark tonight and I think he has a good amount of shots again tonight, but this time he gets one through.

Sean Monahan @ Ottawa Senators ($7700 FD)

Monahan is a great play along with Ferland and Gaudreau tonight for the Flames in their matchup against the Senators, who played a hard fought game last night against the Sabres last night but fell short in the shootout. Monahan had a goal and an assist on Wednesday night against the Sabres, where he looked very good until he left the game for an undisclosed reason. He should be all ready to go tonight with the same lines as on Wednesday.

Eric Staal @ Vancouver Canucks ($7500 FD)

I am expecting a big game from the Wild again tonight against a struggling Canucks team, who doesn’t seem to know how to play hockey without Brock Boeser. Staal is coming off a huge game on Tuesday against the Hurricanes, where he scored 2 goals and added on 5 SOG and 2 blocked shots.

Good Plays:

Pierre-Luc Dubois vs Detroit Red Wings ($5700 FD)

Dubois is a really good play tonight against the Red Wings. I wouldn’t mind a Dubois/Atkinson/Panarin GPP stack tonight. This line has been finding the score sheet left and right over the past 5 games. He is a cheaper center that has been producing very good FD numbers recently. He has 1 goal and 5 assists in his last 4 games.

Mikko Koivu @ Vancouver Canucks ($5700 FD)

A lot of people are overlooking the production from the second line for the Wild. Staal/Zucker/Granlund have been getting all the recognition lately, but Koivu and Parise have been connecting with each other very well lately. Koivu has over 13 FD points in 4 of his last 5 games, with the 1 game he didn’t being 9.7 FD points. His price is much cheaper than Staal and they have been producing almost at the same rate over the past 5 games.

Mikael Backlund @ Ottawa Senators ($5400 FD)

Backlund is the center of the second line for the Flames. He has 2 goals and an assist in his last 4 games and is averaging about 4 shots on goal per game recently. I prefer line 1 tonight for the Flames, but Backlund is definitely a sneaky play tonight against the Senators.

Value Plays:

Radek Faksa vs Anaheim Ducks ($4400 FD)

Faksa will be centering the second line for the Dallas Stars as he returns to the lineup tonight. This is really just a GPP only play as its his first game back after returning from injury. His Wingers will be Benn and Pitlick, which really increases his value. I expect the Stars to get the win I this one and its going to be a hard fought game all around.

Nick Foligno vs Detroit Red Wings ($5800 FD)

Foligno and the second line are good sneaky plays tonight against the Red Wings as everyone will be flocking toward Dubois and the first line. Foligno is playing around 18-20 min/game, which are great minutes for a second liner and I expect this line to find the score sheet at least once tonight.

WINGERS

Top Plays:

Alexander Radulov vs Anaheim Ducks ($6500 FD)

Radulov is on the first line tonight along with Seguin and Janmark as Hitchcock continues to shake up the lines until he finds something that really works consistently and not just 1 game out of the week. Radulov is hands down the hardest work on the Dallas Stars and his game log shows that. He gets gritty goals night in and night out for the Stars, which are 100% deserved. I wouldn’t be surprised if he scores over 17+ FD points if not into the 20s tonight against the Ducks.

Johnny Gaudreau @ Ottawa Senators ($7800 FD)

A rested Johnny Hockey vs a Senators team on a back to back? Yes please! He has 3 assists over his last 2 games and has looked more comfortable again lately as he seems to be finding his rhythm again. We all know how good he is and I think we will really see it tonight against the Senators.

Artemi Panarin vs Detroit Red Wings ($7400 FD)

Panarin has been hot, hot, hot for the Blue Jackets this season and especially in their last 3 games. He has 3 goals and 3 assists over his last three games and should add onto that total in both categories tonight against the Red Wings. As I mentioned, CLB 1 stack is one of my favorites tonight.

Mikael Granlund/Jason Zucker @ Vancouver Canucks ($7200 FD) ($6800 FD)

I included both Granlund and Zucker together tonight because I like them both as top plays tonight against the struggling Vancouver Canucks. They continue to produce top notch offense along with Staal as the regular season enters its last month. They should find the score sheet at least once if not twice.

Cam Atikinson vs Detroit Red Wings ($6200 FD)

I like this first line for the Blue Jackets a lot tonight as I said above. Dubois, Atkinson, and Panarin have been rockin and rollin as of late and should continue tonight against Coreau and the Detroit Red Wings. Fairly good price on Atkinson as well tonight.

Good Plays:

Zach Parise @ Vancouver Canucks ($6100 FD)

Parise has been hot for the Wild and the second line. He has managed double digit FD points in each of his last 5 games, managing 3 goals and 2 assists in that span. He has looked really good with Koivu recently and I wouldn’t mind a little cheap sneaky gpp stack with them two tonight.

Rickard Rakell @ Dallas Stars ($7000 FD)

I like the Stars in this matchup tonight on home ice against the Ducks, but Rakell is such a good player that I wouldn’t be surprised if he finds the score sheet tonight against Lehtonen. He has been on fire for the Ducks over his last 5 games, managing 8 goals and 2 assists in that span. He has also scored 28+ FD points in 4 of those 5 as well with the other game being 15.7 FD points.

Value Plays:

Ryan Dzingel vs Calgary Flames ($3900 FD)

Dzingel thrived on the first line with Hoffman and Duchene last night. He scored 2 goals on 3 shots for the Sens last night and while I like the Flames more in this matchup, at his price, I like him a lot again. The Flames don’t really have a true number one goalie right now with Smith out and I just don’t see Rittich getting a shutout tonight.

Brendan Leipsic vs Minnesota Wild ($3400 FD)

Leipsic is about the only player, I would think about playing tonight other than Suter. They just don’t look the same without Boeser. I watched their last game and Leipsic was doing his best to put the team on his back, but its just too much for one player to do. He is so cheap which makes him a good value play but its just not a very favorable matchup for him tonight against the red hot Wild.

Michael Ferland @ Ottawa Senators ($4500 FD)

Ferland is on the first line with Monahan and Gaudreau again tonight. At $4500 he is a great play since he is with those two other studs on line 1. I like this line stack a lot tonight against the Senators.

DEFENSEMEN

Top Plays:

Ryan Suter @ Vancouver Canucks ($5600 FD)

Suter has recorded 2 assists in each of his last 2 games and has looked very comfortable passing the puck to Staal/Zucker/granlund, all of which are very good plays tonight against the struggling Vancouver Canucks, who are without Boeser for the rest of the season.

Seth Jones vs Detroit Red Wings ($5700 FD)

Jones is coming off a huge game last night against Colorado, where he managed 1 goal and 2 assists for 41.3 FD points. I expect another good game tonight from the Blue Jackets first line against the struggling Detroit Red Wings.

Dougie Hamilton @ Ottawa Senators ($5600 FD)

I like Hamilton more tonight versus the Senators but I continuously choose the wrong Calgary Defenseman. So if I were you, I would pick Giordano haha. I think they both have good games tonight against the Senators, who are on their second of a back to back and played a hard physical game last night.

Good Plays:

Matt Dumba @ Vancouver Canucks (4700 FD)

Dumba is on the second defenseman pair but continues to produce some quality fantasy numbers night after night. He has an assist in 3 of his last 4 games and typically blocks at least 2 shots per game as well. He is a good cheaper option if you aren’t looking to spend in the 5000s for a defenseman tonight.

Mark Giordano @ Ottawa Senators ($5800 FD)

Giordano has looked really good in his past two games, where he has posted 2 goals and an assist. He also has over 25 FD points in both games. I always seem to play the wrong defenseman for the Flames, so Ill let you make the decision on which one to play, because I like them both.

Value Plays:

Esa Lindell vs Anaheim Ducks ($3800 FD)

Lindell returns to the lineup tonight after being out with an illness. He is pretty consistent when it comes to fantasy points, but he also has the potential to find the score sheet multiple times per game, since he is paired with John Klingberg on the first line.

Brandon Montour @ Dallas Stars ($3700 FD)

Montour averages just over 22 minutes of ice time per game for the Ducks and is on the first d pair with Fowler. He is such a cheap defenseman option that manages most of his fantasy points through shots on goal or blocked shots, but also has a good chance of finding the score sheet, mainly through assists.

GOALIES

Top Plays:

Devan Dubnyk @ Vancouver Canucks ($8600 FD)

Dubnyk has been sharp recently, picking up back-to-back wins over the Red Wings and Hurricanes while posting a spectacular 1.50 GAA and .950 save percentage over that span. He is up against the Canucks, who did not look good at all in their game against the Coyotes on Wednesday night.

Sergei Bobrovsky vs Detroit Red Wings ($8700 FD)

Bobrovsky has performed well between the pipes, allowing two goals or fewer in eight of his last 10 starts to compile a 6-3-1 record over that span. He will attempt to continue that hot streak Friday against Detroit, who is averaging just 2.55 goals per game this season. Should be an easy night for Sergei in net.

Good Plays:

David Rittich @ Ottawa Senators ($8100 FD)

Rittich hasn’t been remarkable by any means this season but he showed some promising signs in his 25 save win against the Sabres, where he recorded just over 25 FD points. Ottawa is on the 2nd of back to back tonight and will be tired after a hard fought game against the Sabres last night. Rittich should come out with the win in this one if his team gives him some offensive support.

Value Plays:

Kari Lehtonen (GPP Only) vs Anaheim Ducks ($8100 FD)

Lehtonen has played much better this season than last year. It seems he enjoys this role more, where he isn’t having to stress starting every single night for the Dallas Stars. Kari was terrific against the Predators on Tuesday, as he stopped 32 of 33 shots, but ended up getting outdueled by Pekka Rinne on the way to his seventh regulation loss of the season. He is up against the Ducks tonight, who rank 21st in goals/game.

My Favorite GPP Stacks:
CLB 1- Dubois/Panarin/Atkinson
MIN 1- Staal/Zucker/Granlund
CGY 1- Monahan/Gaudreau/Ferland

Possible Low Owned Sneaky Stacks:
CLB 2-Foligno/Bjorkstand/Milano
MIN 2-Koivu/Parise/Niederreiter
