NHL DFS Breakdown (3/6)
Hello everyone and Happy Tuesday! Tonight, we have a nice sized 9 game slate and some pretty decent matchups. Lock is at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT. I will list my plays of the day with a few details but if you want further details on the plays then you need to be in our slack chat! Here are the 9 matchups tonight and their start times (Eastern Time):
Tyler Seguin @ Nashville Predators ($8300 FD)
Seguin has been on a serious roll lately and deserves to be in this article despite a very tough road matchup against the Nashville Predators, who lead the west with 92 points. He has 22+ FD points in 4 of his last 5 games and 2 of those were over 35 FD points. He has been hot and even though they are up against the Preds, I have a feeling he will find the back of the net yet again.
Steven Stamkos vs Florida Panthers ($8700 FD)
Stamkos is a very good play tonight against the Panthers. He is coming off a game where he scored 2 goals in Kucherovs return to the lineup. These two have a connection like no other and it is exciting watching them together on the ice. Lethal PP helps with both of their fantasy values.
Eric Staal vs Carolina Hurricanes ($7500 FD)
Staal had a couple rough games before his last one where he rebounded nicely with 17.3 FD points. He has been on a hot streak on that first line with Zucker and Granlund over the past 2 weeks and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see that group light it up again tonight on home ice against the Hurricanes.
Ryan Getzlaf vs Washington Capitals ($7600 FD)
Getzlaf is a really good sneaky play with his matchup against the Washington Capitals. He should be low owned due to all the other options but he is really a really good option due to the Capitals giving up quite a few goals per game recently.
Nathan MacKinnon @ Chicago Blackhawks ($8600 FD)
MacKinnon has 8 goals and 12 assists in 26 road games this season for the Avalanche. The Avalanche are not a very good road team but those are still not bad numbers for MacKinnon. Good road matchup against the Blackhawks and I do like MacKinnon tonight despite the bad Avs road numbers.
Brayden Point vs Florida Panthers ($6400 FD)
Point is a solid option at center tonight on the 2nd line for the Lightning. I like him and Gourde being on the same line together as they have been really good together in the past. He plays almost 20 minutes a night and has a goal and an assist over his last 2 games.
Aleksander Barkov @ Tampa Bay Lightning ($7600 FD)
Barkov has been red hot as of late for the Panthers and a lot of people will be fading him tonight due to his matchup against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He has a 6 game point streak entering tonight and I wouldn’t be the least surprised if he makes it 7 tonight with ease.
William Karlsson @ Columbus Blue Jackets ($7500 FD)
Karlsson is not one of my top plays tonight due to all the other great options out there in this 9 game slate. He is not a bad option by any means though. He didn’t have a good game the other night against the Devils as he only managed 3.2 FD points but the 2 games before that, he managed over 20 points in each.
Paul Stastny @ New York Rangers ($5700 FD)
Stastny is one of my favorite center plays tonight. The connection he has with Laine and Ehlers is almost unreal. That might be one of the hottest lines right now as they continue to produce night in and night out since he got to Winnipeg. Great play all around tonight against the Rangers.
Mike Fisher vs Dallas Stars ($3000 FD)
Fisher is strictly a GPP only play tonight against the Dallas Stars. I am not sure which line he will be on as he slides back into the lineup for the second time. As of right now FD has him as the center of line 2 but as we’ve seen lately, the Predators don’t like to release anything until warmups come around. Possible good play tonight and I really like him if he is on that 2nd line with Smith and Fiala.
Riley Nash vs Detroit Red Wings ($5300 FD)
Nash has stepped up nicely in the absence of Bergeron. He didn’t have a very good last game but the 2 before that he recorded over 21 FD points in each. He has looked very comfortable with Pastrnak and Marchand on that 1st line.
Taylor Hall vs Montreal Canadiens ($8400 FD)
Point streak beast, Taylor Hall, has a good matchup tonight on home ice against the Montreal Canadiens. I have no doubt in my mind that he continues his point streak tonight and extends it to 26 games. He looks so energized night in and night out. Great play tonight.
Patrik Laine @ New York Rangers ($8200 FD)
I love the Laine line tonight with Ehlers and Stastny. I think this line goes off tonight against the Rangers. Yes the Rangers have won their last three games, but I do not expect a very good game from them tonight. Laine is thriving since they acquired Stastny at the trade deadline. He has not scored under 15 FD points since the 13th of February and has scored over 20 FD points in 7 of his last 8 games. This is my favorite play of the night at the winger position.
Nikita Kucherov vs Florida Panthers ($8800 FD)
Kucherov is a great play tonight against the Panthers. Him and Stamkos looked extremely good together in Kucherovs return the other night, where he recorded 3 assists and Stamkos recorded 2 goals.
Jonathan Marchessault @ Columbus Blue Jackets ($7400 FD)
Marchessault burned me the other day when I played him, but I am giving him another shot tonight because I think he will have a very good night tonight against the Blue Jackets. The Jackets have played pretty well at home lately but it looks like it will be Korpisalo in net tonight and that raises how much I like the Golden Knights.
Brad Marchand vs Detroit Red Wings ($7800 FD)
Love Marchand tonight against the Red Wings. He has been finding the scoring sheet consistently over the last couple weeks and I expect him to find it more than once tonight. Bergeron being out still sucks but Nash has stepped in nicely and they have continued to roll.
Alex Ovechkin @ Anaheim Ducks ($8900 FD)
If you are one who likes to chase narratives then this is another good one to chase. He is 2 goals away from 600 career goals. Personally, I don’t think he gets that tonight in his matchup against the Ducks, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he does score one tonight.
David Pastrnak vs Detroit Red Wings ($7100 FD)
As I’ve said above, I really like the first line for the Bruins tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. I personally like Marchand more tonight, but I definitely could see that whole line going off tonight with each of them getting 15+.
Blake Wheeler @ New York Rangers ($7400 FD)
Wheeler has been on fire over the past 2 weeks and I don’t see that stopping tonight against the Rangers. It seems that a lot are going on the rangers side of things tonight but I am staying with the Jets. He has double digit FD points in 10 of his last 11 games, with many of those being well over 20 FD points.
Patrick Kane vs Colorado Avalanche ($6400 FD)
Kane might be a sneaky play tonight against the Colorado Avalanche. The Avs aren’t good at all away from home this season and have given up 119 goals on the road. I’m not a fan of Chicago winning this game but I could certainly see this game getting to be fairly high scoring.
Viktor Arvidsson vs Dallas Stars ($6700 FD)
I like the Predators quite a bit tonight against the Dallas Stars (as much as that hurts me to say) but its the truth. The Stars are on the 2nd of a back to back and have gone to OT in three straight. Arvidsson has been extremely hot for the Preds, managing 4 straight games of 16+ FD points and striking double digit in 7 of his last 8.
Jesper Bratt vs Montreal Canadiens ($3600 FD)
Bratt looks to be back in the lineup for the Devils tonight and might be back on the first line with the point streak man, Taylor Hall. He is a super cheap option tonight and has a great matchup against the Canadiens.
Craig Smith vs Dallas Stars ($5400 FD)
Smith should slide back into the lineup tonight against the Dallas Stars after coming off 2 games of rest. I like Smith a lot tonight for the Preds as he is coming off that rest and the Dallas Stars are not well rested after playing last night and losing in OT to the Senators.
Brett Ritchie @ Nashville Predators ($3200 FD)
Ritchie makes the article again solely on the fact that Seguin is extremely hot and Ritchie is so cheap on that first line. This is strictly a GPP only play as they have a tough matchup against the best in the west, the Nashville Predators.
Ryan Ellis vs Dallas Stars ($5300 FD)
Ellis is one of my favorite defenseman on this 9 game slate with his matchup against the Dallas Stars, who are on the 2nd game of a back to back. He has two straight games of 29+ FD points and I see that continuing tonight against a tired Dallas Stars team that has gone to OT three straight games.
Victor Hedman vs Florida Panthers ($6800 FD)
Hedman is the most expensive defenseman on the slate tonight with his matchup on home ice against the Panthers. He is coming off a huge game a few nights ago against the Flyers, where he managed 2 goals and 2 assists for over 45 FD points. Personally, I don’t think I am going to spend up for him but certainly can’t go wrong paying up for him tonight.
Zdeno Chara vs Detroit Red Wings ($4400 FD)
Chara is a fairly consistent d-man for how cheap he is. He has the potential to get 3-5 blocked shots in a game and is on the first line, where he can also find the score sheet from time to time.
Torey Krug vs Detroit Red Wings ($5900 FD)
I really like the Bruins In the matchup tonight and I also like both Line 1 and Line 2. Chara and Krug are both very solid options tonight against the Red Wings. Krug seems to find the score sheet more than Chara does though. He is also coming off two straight games where he has recorded over 25 FD points in each.
Jeff Petry @ New Jersey Devils ($4500 FD)
Petry is the only guy to make my article for the Canadiens tonight and I hope that’s not a bad thing since I am expecting a good game from Kincaid in net. He is a very good D-man for the Canadiens and always has the potential to find the score sheet multiple times a night.
Tyson Barrie @ Chicago Blackhawks ($5600 FD)
Barrie has been on a roll lately, managing double digit FD points in 4 of his last 5 games and while they’re not very good on the road, a matchup against the Blackhawks could help turn that around.
Matt Dumba vs Carolina Hurricanes ($4700 FD)
Dumba is back on the first D-man pair again tonight in the Wilds matchup on home ice against the Hurricanes. With so many options tonight, its hard to get much from the Wild and I think Dumba is a good value play from them as he has been producing some good numbers as of late.
Mike Matheson @ Tampa Bay Lightning ($4400 FD)
Matheson has hit or exceeded value in 8 of his last 10 games. He blocks an abundant amount of shots per game which gives him some very good FD points, despite not finding the score sheet. That’s not to say he doesn’t find the score sheet as he certainly does find it occasionally.
Brandon Montour vs Washington Capitals ($3700 FD)
Montour is averaging just over 22 min in ice time right now for the Ducks as he continues to be on the first defenseman pair with Fowler. He is still so cheap for a first line d-man and I like him a lot tonight against the Capitals.
Anton Khudobin vs Detroit Red Wings ($7800 FD)
Khudobin played extremely well in Sundays win against the Montreal Canadiens, where he made 27 saves on 28 shots and received the win for just over 29 FD points. Good matchup tonight for him against the Detroit Red Wings, who have only scored 11 goals in their last 5 matchups.
Devan Dubnyk vs Carolina Hurricanes ($8600 FD)
Dubnyk has claimed victories in five of his last six appearances, with his only rough start taking place in Colorado last Friday, when he surrendered five goals on 17 shots before getting pulled. He is the obvious favorite against the Hurricanes, who are 3-5-2 in their last 10 games. Great play tonight on home ice.
Marc-Andre Fleury @ Columbus Blue Jackets ($8500 FD)
Fleury is coming off a 33 save win against the Devils on Monday, where he looked very sharp in the crease. It’s on the road which isn’t ideal for the Knights but still shouldn’t be a problem. He has a 2.02 GAA on the road this season and a 10-3-1 record which is stellar.
Kieth Kincaid vs Montreal Canadiens ($7700 FD)
Kincaid is a goalie who has kind of slid under the radar lately. He has been playing very well and has only given up 2 or less goals in each of his last 6 games. He gave up two the other night against Carolina and got the loss because he got no offensive support. I like him quite a bit tonight against the Canadiens and I don’t think he will be very high
My Favorite GPP Stacks:
TB 1- Stamkos/Kucherov/Killorn
NSH 1- Johansen/Arvidsson/Forsberg
MIN 1- Staal/Zucker/Granlun
WPG 3- Stastny/Laine/Ehlers
BOS 1-Riley Nash/Marchand/Pastrnak
