NHL DFS Breakdown (3/2)

Hello everyone, thank goodness it’s Friday! Tonight, we have a good sized 9 game slate and some decent matchups. Lock is at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT.  I will list my plays of the day with a few details but if you want further details on the plays then you need to be in our slack chat! Here are the 9 matchups tonight and their start times (Eastern Time):

NJ@CAR 7:30 PM

OTT@VGK 10:30 PM

Top Plays:

Mark Scheifele vs Detroit Red Wings ($8100 FD/$7200 DK)

Scheifele is on fire right now for the Jets. He has 3 straight games of over 15 FD points and he should easily surpass that tonight on home ice against the Detroit Red Wings. Jets are 23-7-2 at home this season which favors them big time in this matchup.

William Karlsson vs Ottawa Senators ($7400 FD/$7100 DK)

Karlsson and the first line for the Golden Knights are my favorite plays tonight against the Senators. Vegas is 24-6-2 on home ice this season, while outscoring opponents 116 to 75 at home as well. He had a goal and an assist the last time these two teams met back in November and he has only picked up steam since then.

Nathan MacKinnon vs Minnesota Wild ($8400 FD/$7500 DK)

Nathan MacKinnon on home ice is a must have in the article. I am not really a fan of the matchup with how hot the wild have been but they are on a 2nd of a back to back and didn’t look very good in their 3-5 loss to Arizona last night. He has 21 goals and 30 assists at home this season, which is an incredible number in both categories.

Good Plays:

Sean Monahan vs New York Rangers ($7700 FD/$6700 DK)

I like the first line for the Flames a lot tonight against the Rangers. The Flames lost to the Rangers just under a month ago 3-4 in New York. New York has gotten worse since then and this time its the Flames on home ice.

Paul Stastny vs Detroit Red Wings ($5600 FD/$5100 DK)

Paul Stastny is fitting in nicely for the Winnipeg Jets on the 2nd line with Patrik Laine. They now have two super lethal lines with the addition of Stastny. Ill take the Jets in this matchup all day long without any doubt.

Aleksander Barkov vs Buffalo Sabres ($7300 FD/$6800 DK)

I struggled with where to put Barkov at in this article. It’s tough because they are on the 2nd of back to back but they are going against the Sabres. Another reason there is some doubt it because the Sabres held the Lightning in check all game on Tuesday and beat them 2-1 in OT. I still think the Panthers get the win in this one but I just don’t know how much scoring will be involved in this one. Still love the first line for the Panthers tonight in GPP stacks.

Value Plays:

Kyle Turris @ Vancouver Canucks ($4900 FD/$5200 DK)

The 2nd line didn’t really do much for the Predators in their win last night as the 1st and 3rd lines pretty much carried the load. I expect that to be different tonight on the road against the Vancouver Canucks. This should be a good game for the 2nd line to show up big and find the score sheet a couple times.

Top Plays:

Johnny Gaudreau vs New York Rangers ($7900 FD/$7000 DK)

It’s about time Gaudreau makes it into one of my articles. I really like Johnny hockey but it just never seems like he has the right matchup to make my article. That changes tonight though, as the Flames play the New York Rangers. Give me all Calgary in this home ice matchup. He has 9 goals and 23 assists on home ice and recorded an assist the last time these two teams on Feb 9th.

Jonathan Marchessault vs Ottawa Senators ($7500 FD/$7400 DK)

As I said above, VGK 1 is my favorite line tonight in their matchup against the Senators. The Senators are 0-4-1 in their last 5 games and just continue to struggle night in and night out. They have super inconsistent goal-tending and I expect the Knights to pick them apart tonight.

Brendan Gallagher @ New York Islanders ($6800 FD/$5800 DK)

Gallagher is bumped up to line two tonight with Drouin and Galchenyuk against the New York Islanders. This is going to be a sneaky line tonight as the Islanders give up the most shots per game and the 2nd line averages the most shots per game for the Canadiens.

Taylor Hall @ Carolina Hurricanes ($8200 FD/$7800 DK)

Taylor Hall makes this list of course as he has a 23 point streak going on right now. He hasn’t been off the score sheet since December..It is March!!! I am riding this point streak narrative until it ends because holy smokes this is out of this world. Good opportunity to continue it tonight against the Hurricanes.

Good Plays:

Blake Wheeler vs Detroit Red Wings ($7700 FD/$7600 DK)

Wheeler could honestly be in my top plays category as well with how much I like Winnipeg 1 tonight on home ice against the Red Wings. He has 2 goals and 7 assists in his last 5 games and I see him adding to those stats tonight.

Reilly Smith vs Ottawa Senators ($6500 FD/$6800 DK)

As you’ve already read, I like the Knights tonight a lot and wouldn’t mind having a Karlsson-March-Smith stack tonight but that gets pretty expensive now with how high priced Smith is getting after all his production this season.

Craig Smith @ Vancouver Canucks ($5600 FD/$5700 DK)

Nashville 2 is another sneaky play tonight as they will look to get it going tonight in the 2nd game of a back to back after they didn’t really do much yesterday as the 1st and 3rd lines carried the load.

Evgenii Dadonov vs Buffalo Sabres ($5900 FD/$6200 DK)

Dadonov has looked really good this second half of the season for the Panthers as he continues to find the back of the net. Him and Barkov connect really well on the ice and it is fun watching that first PP get on the ice. Good play tonight in a stack with Barkov if you really feel that they are going to destroy the Sabres.

Value Plays:

Sam Bennett vs New York Rangers ($4200 FD/$3800 DK)

Love the Calgary 1 stack with Monahan-Gaudreau- Bennett, They should find the back of the net many times tonight against the Rangers. The Flames haven’t look that good lately but this could be a huge rebound game for them.

Nick Bjugstad vs Buffalo Sabres ($4700 FD/$4800 DK)

Bjugstad continues to be the cheaper option from line 1 for the Panthers. Obviously, Dadonov and Barkov are the two go-to guys from the Panthers but Bjugstad is a very good player which is why he is on that line. Sneaky value play tonight against the Sabres.

Top Plays:

Dougie Hamilton vs New York Rangers ($5900 FD/$5600 DK)

So much Calgary in my article tonight haha, Hopefully it pays off. It should pay off considering they’re on home ice against one of the teams struggling the most lately despite coming off a good win the other night. Hamilton always seems to be a strong option from the Flames, even if the matchup isn’t good.

Dustin Byfuglien vs Detroit Red Wings ($5700 FD/$5800 DK)

I really like Byfuglien tonight against the Detroit Red Wings. He does it all for the Jets, gets involved in offense while also playing consistent defense and blocking a good number of shots fired at the net. Great play on all formats tonight.

Good Plays:

Ty Barrie vs Minnesota Wild ($5400 FD/$6300 DK)

Since Barrie has returned from injury, he has looked amazing. He is all over the ice, assisting on goals, scoring goals, shooting the puck a lot, and blocking a good number of shots. He isn’t a great play in my book due to the matchup but I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with playing him tonight.

Roman Josi @ Vancouver Canucks ($6700 FD/$6800 DK)

Josi has been on fire over his last 10 games for the Predators. He has 11 straight games of over 10 FD points. He should surpass that tonight and might even double it with a good matchup against the Canucks. Only downside is that the Predators are on the 2nd game of a back to back.

Jeff Petry @ New York Islanders ($4800 FD/$5400 DK)

Petry has been a really good consistent defenseman for the Canadiens this season and has been one of the few bright spots on this struggling team. He finds the score sheet a lot and I expect him to find it again tonight.

Value Plays:

Brad Hunt vs Ottawa Senators ($4000 FD/$3300 DK)

Nate Schmidt is out for the Golden Knights tonight, so it is Hunt and Merrill on the first defenseman pair. Hunt didn’t produce much last game but the three before that he surpassed 10 FD points. I like him a lot tonight with how cheap he is.

Top Plays:

Connor Hellebuyck vs Detroit Red Wings ($8200 FD/$8400 DK)

If I had to make a guess on which goalie would be the most likely to receive a shutout, I would say Hellebuyck. With how well the Jets have been playing, I see this game being pretty lopsided from the get go. Helle is 3-2 in his last 5 starts with a 2.62 GAA.

Good Plays:

Marc-Andre Fleury vs Ottawa Senators ($8700 FD/$8500 DK)

Marc-Andre Fleury is another great play tonight because the Golden Knights will for sure win this game against the Senators. I don’t have him as a great play tonight just because I think the Senators will still find the back of a the net a couple times. Fleury has a 2.22 GAA at home this season, which is a really good number.

Value Plays:

James Reimer vs Buffalo Sabres ($7300 FD/$7800 DK)

I like Reimer tonight against the Sabres. He is the strongest value play tonight on this 9 game slate. The Sabres are not a scary team offensively by any means this season especially after losing Eichel to injury and Evander Kane at the trade deadline. Should be a definite win for him tonight.

Jon Gillies (GPP Only) vs New York Rangers ($7600 FD/$7900 DK)

Gillies is 2-1 on the season, with that 1 loss coming on Tuesday against the Stars, where he gave up two goals, but got no offensive support as the Stars won that game 2-0. I recommend Gillies only being played in GPPs due to the fact that the Rangers can still score if they show up. They aren’t a very scary team either though as they have struggled mightily the second half of this season.

My Favorite GPP Stacks:

WPG 1- Scheifele/Wheeler/Connor

CGY 1- Monahan/Gaudreau/Bennett

VGK 1- Karlsson/Marchessault/Smith

Cheaper Stack Options:

NSH 2- Turris/Smith/Fiala

MTL 2-Drouin/Gallagher/Galchenyuk
