NHL DFS Breakdown (3/1)
Happy Thursday everyone! Tonight, we have a good sized 8 game slate and some decent matchups. Lock is at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT. I will list my top plays, good plays, and value plays for tonight’s games and if you want further details on plays then you need to be in our slack chat! Here are the 8 matchups tonight and their start times (Central Time):
Got a few favorable matchups tonight in this list. My favorite matchups are the NJ@FLA, TB@DAL, MIN@ARI, and CHI@SJ. At the end of the article, I will put down my favorite line stacks for the night. Now let’s move into the plays of the day!
Top Center Plays:
Aleksander Barkov vs New Jersey Devils ($7300 FD/$7000 DK)
Barkov and the first line for the Panthers have been playing exceptionally well this season and especially lately. The first PP line for the Panthers has also looked really good lately. He has 2 goals and 4 assists in his last 5 games while also adding on 19 shots. Solid center option tonight.
Tyler Seguin vs Tampa Bay Lightning ($8100 FD/$7200 DK)
I really like the Stars tonight against the Lightning on their 2nd game of a back to back. Lightning lost last night to Buffalo 1-2 in OT and just didn’t look very good. The Stars on the other hand looked decent on Tuesday night in their 2-0 win against the Flames. The boys (Seguin-Benn-Radulov) are back together tonight on line 1, which is great considering the last time hitch switched up the lines for a while and then put them back together, they had a heck of a game, scoring 4 goals just from line 1.
Eric Staal @ Arizona Coyotes ($7500 FD/$7300 DK)
Since getting moved to the first line on the Wild, Staal hasn’t scored under 14 FD points. He has looked so comfortable alongside Zucker and Granlund. Another great matchup tonight against the Coyotes. The Coyotes are 10-18-4 on home ice this season and are getting outscored 75 to 98 on home ice as well.
Evgeni Malkin @ Boston Bruins ($9000 FD/$7600 DK)
Malkin is the second most expensive center on the slate behind McDavid but rightfully so. The amount of production he has produced this season and especially the month of February is incredible. I cant help but to think back to the PIT vs BOS playoff series and how nasty and physical that game was to the point where Malkin and Bergeron fought. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw that intensity again tonight from Malkin.
Good Center Plays:
Joe Pavelski vs Chicago Blackhawks ($7200 FD/$6100 DK)
I like a Pavelski-Kane GPP stack tonight in their matchup on home ice against the Chicago Blackhawks. He is coming off a huge game against the Oilers, where he scored 1 goal and 3 assists for over 44 FD points.
Jeff Carter vs Columbus Blue Jackets ($6300 FD/$5300 DK)
Carter has a favorable matchup tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets and Korpisalo, who is in net tonight. He has looked really good since getting moved to the second line for the Kings. He has two straight games with over 20 FD points, scoring a goal in each game.
Vincent Trocheck vs New Jersey Devils ($7100 FD/$6500 DK)
I prefer the first line for the Panthers tonight but as seen last game, both lines can both produce in 1 game, making Trocheck still a good play tonight. I like him as a GPP option with Vrbata at Winger.
Value Center Plays:
Riley Nash vs Pittsburgh Penguins ($5000 FD/$4500 DK)
Nash is still on line 1 for the Bruins tonight against the Penguins, as Bergeron continues to be out with a lower body injury. Nash looked comfortable in his first game as the first line center, managing a goal and an assist. Good center value play tonight in what could be a high scoring game.
Kyle Turris @ Edmonton Oilers ($4900 FD/$5100 DK)
Turris has been playing so good for the Predators this season and I don’t see that ending anytime soon. He has 2 goals and 2 assists in his last 5 games while adding on 14 shots. NSH 2 might be a sneaky gpp stack tonight.
Top Winger Plays:
Taylor Hall @ Florida Panthers ($8200 FD/$7700 DK)
Hall is on an incredible run, actually incredible doesn’t even do it justice. This run he is on is out of this world, he already has 15 goals in 2018 and hasn’t been left off the score sheet since December. I think you have to ride him until this point streak ends because wow..he is so good.
Jamie Benn vs Tampa Bay Lightning ($7400 FD/$6300 DK)
Benn hasn’t scored a goal in 11 games for the Stars but he continues to dish out assists and the boys are back together on line 1 and I am so ready to get this game started. Love this line stack tonight and I think they will be somewhat low owned with everyone seeing Tampa and getting scared off.
Mikael Granlund @ Arizona Coyotes ($7500 FD/$6700 DK)
Granlund and the Wild are on an amazing run lately. He has two 45+ FD performances in his last 4 games and as long as the connection between Staal-Zucker-Granlund keeps up, I expect them to continue this massive scoring spree, especially tonight against Raanta and the Coyotes.
Alexander Radulov vs Tampa Bay Lightning ($6500 FD/$5800 DK)
As you’ve already read through my picks of Seguin and Benn, I couldn’t be more excited that the boys are back together on line 1. Radulov is one of the hardest working guys on the Dallas Stars night in and night out. He didn’t get much last game but the two before that he got over 18 FD points. I like him a lot tonight against the Lightning.
Good Winger Plays
Brad Marchand vs Pittsburgh Penguins ($7900 FD/$7200 DK)
Marchand was held in check last game, only managing 3.2 FD points but I expect this game to be a high scoring one and Marchand should find the score sheet along with Nash and Pastrnak tonight.
Evgenii Dadanov vs New Jersey Devils ($5700 FD/$6000 DK)
Dadonov and the first line has looked really good for the Panthers lately and I expect that to continue into tonight on home ice against the Devils. Florida looks to keep on rolling and catch some other teams to give them a shot at the playoffs. I really like Barkov tonight so Dadonov is also a good play.
Evander Kane vs Chicago Blackhawks ($6600 FD/$6600 DK)
Kane had a good showing in his first game with the Sharks as he managed 2 assists and just over 20 FD points. He has another great matchup tonight on home ice against the Blackhawks. Good play in my book if you are looking to go a pavelski-kane stack in a GPP.
Jason Zucker @ Arizona Coyotes ($6700 FD/$6500 DK)
Zucker had one heck of a game against the Blues, where he recorded 1 goal and 4 assists for over 50 FD points. I really like this first line for the Wild again tonight against the Arizona Coyotes.
Value Winger Plays:
Craig Smith @ Edmonton Oilers ($5600 FD/$5500 DK)
Smith has double digit FD points in each of his three games and exploded last game against the Jets, managing 2 goals and 30.4 FD points. Fiala and Smith are two of my favorites from the Predators tonight.
Kevin Fiala @ Edmonton Oilers ($5300 FD/$5200 DK)
I like both Smith and Fiala tonight as value players against the Oilers. Fiala didn’t do much last game but the 2 before that he looked really good. I expect the Preds to score over 3 goals tonight against the Oilers and I really like this second line for them tonight in Edmonton.
Radim Vrbata vs New Jersey Devils ($3100 FD/$3200 DK)
I had him in my lineup the other night with Trocheck and he met value after recording an assist. Tonight, I only recommend playing him in a GPP line with Trocheck, as he is not a viable option for cash games with all the other cash locks.
Top Defenseman Plays:
Roman Josi @ Edmonton Oilers ($6700 FD/$6600)
Josi is coming off a huge game where he found the score sheet 5 times with 5 assists. He managed 48.5 FD points in that game against the Jets. Not to mention, he has double digit FanDuel points in each of his last 10 games for the Predators. It would be criminal if you don’t have him in a lineup tonight vs the Oilers.
Ryan Suter @ Arizona Coyotes ($5700 FD/$5200 DK)
The Wild have been on a roll ever since they moved Staal to line one with Zucker and Granlund. It isn’t just those three getting it done though, Suter and Spurgeon on defense have also contributed quite well to their recent success. I like Suter a lot tonight against the Arizona Coyotes.
Keith Yandle vs New Jersey Devils ($5100 FD/$5100 DK)
Yandle has been playing exceptionally well this season for the Panthers and works nicely with Barkov and Dadonov when they are on the ice together. He has double digit FD points in 8 of his last 11 games and I expect him to get over 10 yet again tonight against the Devils.
Good Defenseman Plays:
Shayne Gostisbehere vs Carolina Hurricanes ($6400 FD/$
Gostisbehere is coming off a game where he had little production, only managing 1.6 FD points. However, the three games before that he recorded 11, 22.9, and 24 FD and looked really good with the Giroux connection as usual. Good play tonight against the Hurricanes, who are on a 6 game losing streak.
PK Subban @ Edmonton Oilers ($5300 FD/$5600 DK)
Subban has been in a slump recently but he has such a high upside and we all know how good of a game he can have. I like him tonight against the Oilers, who have the potential of giving up quite a few goas per game. I like Subban for GPPs more than cash tonight though with the other cash play defenseman options.
Sami Vatanen @ Florida Panthers ($4800 FD/$
First line defenseman for the Devils. He is averaging close to 10 FD points per game recently and looks really good when he is on the ice with Taylor Hall. I like the Panthers in this matchup but Vatanen is a good play at defenseman tonight.
Value Defenseman Plays:
Charlie McAvoy vs Pittsburgh Penguins ($4100 FD/$4500 DK)
McAvoy has double digit FD points in 3 of his last games for the Bruins. He is on the first line and is coming off a huge game against the Hurricanes, where he recorded 1 goal, 1 assist, 3 shots on goal, and 4 blocked shots. He is a great cheap defenseman play tonight as this game against the Penguins could get to be high scoring rather quickly.
Stephen Johns vs Tampa Bay Lightning ($4300 FD/$3900 DK)
Johns is another cheap defenseman option tonight. He is valuable because he is on the top power play unit with Seguin, Benn, Radulov, and Klingberg. It doesn’t get much better for a defenseman this cheap. If Dallas gets a PP opportunity tonight, I see them cashing in.
Top Goalie Plays:
Ben Bishop vs Tampa Bay Lightning ($8800 FD/7500 DK)
Bishop is getting the start tonight against one of his former teams Thursday after turning in a 38-save shoutout in his last start. He has had some bad performances lately, as he’s 2-3-0 with a 2.93 GAA and .896 save percentage in his last six games. However, after watching how comfortable he was in the shutout win vs the Flames, I really like him in this matchup against his former team. The Lightning are on the 2nd of a back to back and looked terrible last night against the Buffalo Sabres, who they lost to in OT 1-2. I think Bishop will be lower owned tonight because everyone sees his numbers and gets scared, especially with it being against the number 1 team in the NHL.
Martin Jones vs Chicago Blackhawks ($8500 FD/$8300 DK)
Since the NHL’s All-Star break, Jones has fashioned an impressive 6-5-2 record, 2.14 GAA and .932 save percentage through 13 starts. He looks really good in his recent games but the Sharks just give up a lot of shots against. That could be a great point stuffer if he saves them all but you should never expect a shutout in NHL DFS. Chicago is 17th in the league in goals per game on the road, averaging 2.68.
Good Goalie Plays:
Petr Mrazek vs Carolina Hurricanes ($7900 FD/$8200 DK)
Mrazek enters this matchup tonight against the Hurricanes coming off three straight wins and looking to grab his 4th. Staal returns to the lineup tonight for the Canes which is a true blessing for them as they lost 5 consecutive games without him in the lineup and are on an 8 game losing streak period. I expect a good night from the Flyers and Mrazek in net.
Value Goalie Plays:
Alex Stalock @ Arizona Coyotes ($7700 FD/$8400 DK)
Stalock hasn’t played since Feb 22 and then Feb 3rd before that, so he is well rested heading into his matchup tonight against the Arizona Coyotes. The main reason I like him tonight is because the Wild have been outscoring opponents regardless so more than likely he will get this win with ease tonight. Cheap option at goalie especially on FanDuel.
My Favorite Stacks Tonight:
DAL 1- Seguin/Benn/Radulov
FLA 1- Barkov/Dadonov/Bjugstad
NSH 2- Turris/Smith/Fiala
MIN 1- Staal/Granlund/Zucker
Other Stacks I like Tonight:
SJ 1- Pavelski/Donskoi/Kane
FLA 2- Trocheck/Vrbata/Huberdeau
Sneaky GPP Stack:
LA 1- Kopitar/Iaffalo/Brown
LA 2- Carter/Pearson/Toffoli
