NHL DFS Breakdown (2/17)

Hello everyone, great night last night with some value plays like Copp and Beauvillier finding the score sheet. Tonight, we have a 7 game slate and some pretty solid matchups. Lock is at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT. I will list my top plays, good plays, and value plays for tonight’s games and if you want further details on plays then you need to be in our slack chat! Here are the 7 matchups tonight and their start times (Eastern Time):

MON @ VGK 7:00pm
TOR @ PIT 7:00pm
NJ @ TB 7:00pm
DET @ NSH 8:00pm
WAS @ CHI 8:30pm
BOS @ VAN 10:00pm
FLA @ CGY 10:00pm

I like these medium sized slates like these more than the huge 11-12 game slates. My favorite matchups tonight are MON@VGK, DET@NSH, WAS@CHI, and BOS@VAN. At the end of the article, I will put down my favorite line stacks for the night. Now let’s move into the plays of the day!

Top Center Plays:

Patrice Bergeron @ Vancouver Canucks

Bergeron continues to play exceptionally well and he’s now found the scoresheet in 16 of his past 19 contests for 17 goals and 27 points. Great matchup tonight against the struggling Vancouver Canucks.

Steven Stamkos vs New Jersey Devils

Stamkos is back to being on fire for the Lightning. He has seven points in his last five contests and 67 points on the season. Great play tonight against the Devils who are giving up around 3-4 goals per game as of late.

William Karlsson vs Montreal Canadiens

Vegas is 38-15-4 this season and are entering a matchup on home ice against the Montreal Canadiens. This should be an easy easy easy win for the Knights tonight with Price resting and Niemi most likely getting the start. Karlsson is currently on a six game point streak and doesn’t show any signs of stopping soon. He will find the score sheet tonight for sure

Good Center Plays:

Erik Haula vs Montreal Canadiens

Anyone who reads my article knows how much I love the Vegas Golden Knights 2nd line with Haula, Perron, and Neal. He’s gathered a career-high 21 goals to complement 19 assists through 51 games, and is clearly an option on the man advantage with 14 power-play point this season. Niemi in net as well to make this even better.

Nicklas Backstrom @ Chicago Blackhawks

Backstrom has scored five goals and recorded two assists through his past six games and has found the scoresheet in five of those contests. He is back skating on the first line with Ovechkin and with a matchup against the Blackhawks, he should be a good option tonight.

Value Center Plays:

Brayden Point vs New Jersey Devils

Point has been helping fantasy owners tremendously this season, posting 20 goals and 48 points so far. He consistently meets value and should have no problem reaching value tonight against the New Jersey Devils.

Lars Eller @ Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks are struggling so bad this season and can’t seem to get anything going as they have lost eight consecutive games. Also note, they have allowed over four goals per game in that stretch. Eller is one of these guys who is pretty cheap and I recommend only playing in GPPs but all it takes is for him to get one assist and he meets value.

Top Winger Plays:

Filip Forsberg vs Detroit Red Wings

Forsberg has played in 21 total home games and in those 21 games he has registered at least a goal or assist in 19 of them. That is an outstanding number and with a home matchup tonight against the Red Wings, he should continue to tack on to that impressive number.

Jonathan Marchessault vs Montreal Canadiens

All you need to know here is that Price isn’t starting and that was the only hope for the Canadiens tonight against the Knights. March and Karlsson are great plays tonight on all platforms.

Alex Ovechkin @ Chicago Blackhawks

Ovechkin going up against a Blackhawks team who has lost 8 games in a row, give me Washington and Ovechkin all day long. This game could get ugly tonight for the Blackhawks and really fast.

Brad Marchand @ Vancouver Canucks

Marchand is riding an 8 game point streak entering tonight against the Canucks. I like BOS1 tonight a lot as the Canucks are really not good this season. Boston should put up at least thee goals tonight and if they get the PP chances it could be worse than that.

Good Winger Plays:

Micheal Ferland vs Florida Panthers

The Flames are coming off an eight game road trip and  now Ferlands price has dropped a good amount. He has 7 points in his last 8 home games and is skating on the first line with johnny hockey tonight.

Taylor Hall @ Tampa Bay Lightning

Hall has a 16 game point streak going right now, and why not ride it out until it ends. He is on the first forward line and the first power-play unit. He might be a sneaky play tonight and come in fairly low owned. The Lightning have given up 4 or more goals in four of their last 6 games.

Evgenii Dadonov @ Calgary Flames

Dadonov has been playing so well for the Panthers this season and some how his price is still fairly cheap on both platforms. If you are going to play him tonight, I recommend you stack him with Barkov.

Tom Wilson @ Chicago Blackhawks

I like Wilson tonight on the first line again with Ovechkin and Backstrom. He is coming off a game in which he found the score sheet multiple times and not to mention they are playing the awful Blackhawks, who are on an 8 game losing streak.

Value Winger Plays:

Zach Aston-Reese vs Toronto Maple Leafs

Reese is still on the first line with Crosby tonight and he found the goal sheet in their last game when it was his first time with Crosby. Wouldn’t surprise me one bit if they found the score sheet together tonight.

Nick Bjugstad @ Calgary Flames

Bjugstad is coming off a game in which he scored 2 goals for the Panthers. He is strictly just a GPP play tonight in my opinion but it could work out with him going up against Rittich and the Flames.

Top Defenseman Plays:

Victor Hedman vs New Jersey Devils

Hedman is coming off a three point night, including registering seven points in his past five games. He plays great defensively and also gets involved in the offensive side of things for the Lightning as well.

P.K. Subban vs Detroit Red Wings

Subban has four goals and nine points in his last 10 games despite being held off the scoresheet in two of his last three games. I expect him to get back on the score sheet tonight against the Red Wings.

John Carlson @ Chicago Blackhawks

If you can’t tell by now, I really like the Capitals tonight against the Blackhawks, who are on an 8 game losing streak. Carlson is second in defenseman scoring this season behind John Klingberg. Great play tonight.

Good Defenseman Plays:

Torey Krug @ Vancouver Canucks

Krug has been hot of late with five points in his four game points streak as well as nine points in his last 10 games. I like the Bruins a lot tonight against the Canucks and rightfully so, the Bruins are good, while the Canucks are awful.

Nate Schmidt vs Montreal Canadiens

Schmidt is averaging over 22 minutes of ice time for the Golden Knights this season and I wouldn’t be surprised if he continues to get that much ice time. He has a great matchup tonight against the Canadiens.

Value Defenseman Plays:

Nate Schmidt vs Montreal Canadiens

Schmidt is averaging over 22 minutes of ice time for the Golden Knights this season and I wouldn’t be surprised if he continues to get that much ice time. He has a great matchup tonight against the Canadiens.

Charlie McAvoy @ Vancouver Canucks

McAvoy is on the first defensive line pair for the Bruins. I expect him to get almost 10 fanduel points tonight which exceeds his value tonight.

Top Goalie Plays:

Braden Holtby @ Chicago Blackhawks

Blackhawks are one of the worst teams in the league right now and have lost 8 straight games. I would recommend Holtby being your go to goalie tonight but I also understand if you don’t want to spend that high for a goalie. Check other cheaper options below.

Marc-Andre-Fleury vs Montreal Canadiens

This is also one of my favorites tonight against the Canadiens. He plays exceptionally well anywhere but even better at home. He will get the win tonight without a doubt in my mind.

Good Goalie Plays:

Juuse Saros vs Detroit Red Wings

Saros is another good cheaper option tonight with a home ice matchup against the Detroit Red Wings. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gives up only 1 goal or none tonight with a good amount of saves to stuff his points.

Value Goalie Plays:

Roberto Luongo @ Calgary Flames

Luongo will return to the crease for the first time in over two months as he faces the Flames in Calgary. He started the season with a hot start posting a .928 save percentage and 2.61 GAA in 15 outings. Strictly a GPP only play tonight versus the Flames.
