NHL DFS Breakdown (2/13)
Hello everyone, sorry about my 4 day absence this weekend as I was traveling! I am back tonight and what better way to get back into it than with a 12 game slate! Lock is at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT. I will list my top plays, good plays, and value plays for tonight’s games with a little detail but if you want further analysis and lineup building info then you need to be in our slack chat! Tonight, I will just have the FanDuel price due to time constraints. Here are the 12 matchups tonight and their start times (Eastern Time):
CGY @ BOS 7:00pm
NJ @ PHI 7:00pm
CLS @ NYI 7:00pm
LA @ CAR 7:00pm
TB @ BUF 7:00pm
OTT @ PIT 7:00pm
ANH @ DET 7:30pm
STL @ NSH 8:00pm
WAS @ WPG 8:00pm
NYR @ MIN 8:00pm
CHI @ VGK 10:00pm
ARI @ SJ 10:30pm
This slate looks great tonight. A couple teams in great spots on home ice going against teams on a B2B. There will plenty of good options for you to choose from. As many of you know that read my articles, I recommend making multiple lineups with different stacks throughout them and you may get one lineup that scores super high and one that doesn’t do so well. If you don’t have the bankroll to play multiple lineups, I suggest that you get some exposure from as many of the games that you think will be the highest scoring. My favorite matchups tonight are CGY@BOS, CLS@NYI, NYR@MIN, CHI@VGK and ARI@SJ. At the end of the article, I will put down my favorite line stacks for the night. Now let’s move into the plays of the day!
Top Center Plays:
Patrice Bergeron vs Calgary Flames ($8100 FD)
Bergeron is one of my favorite players to roster in NHL DFS simply because he is so consistent. We know what we are getting from him every night, and with him being on the first forward line and the first power-play unit, he has plenty of upside. He will be up against the Flames, who are down to their backup goalie because of an injury to Mike Smith, so Bergeron and Bruins could be in a good spot. He has 49 points in 49 games this season, and is taking over three shots per game.
William Karlsson vs Chicago Blackhawks ($7200 FD)
Karlsson-Marchessault stack tonight against the Blackhawks might be the best time to spend up for them. Great matchup tonight but personally I prefer the VGK 2 line with Neal-Haula-Perron.
Evgeni Malkin vs Ottawa Senators ($9200 FD)
Malkin might be one of the hottest guys in the league right now in addition to Bergeron and the Bruins. He is putting up tremendous fantasy numbers over his last 10 games its remarkable.
Logan Couture vs Arizona Coyotes ($7000 FD)
Couture and the Sharks should have no problem destroying the Coyotes tonight who are on the road and on the 2nd of a B2B. Great play as he has been over his last 5 games.
Good Center Plays:
Mikko Koivu vs New York Rangers ($5500 FD)
Koivu and the Wild have been on an awesome hot streak lately and have been scoring exceptionally well in that streak. Great matchup tonight against the Rangers for Koivu and his 1st line.
John Tavares vs Columbus Blue Jackets ($8400 FD)
Tavares is now up to 28 goals and 34 assists through 56 games, and his 3.27 points per 60 minutes remains at the top. This game should be a high scoring one and I expect him to maybe see the score sheet once if not twice tonight.
Joe Pavelski vs Arizona Coyotes ($7300 FD)
Pavelski has 4 goals and 2 assists while also adding on 13 shots in his last three games. He will continue that hot streak tonight against the Arizona Coyotes who are on a B2B. Stack with Donskoi or Meier tonight.
Value Center Plays:
Erik Haula vs Chicago Blackhawks ($6100 FD)
Haula line is one of my favorites who have been consistently helping me win over the last few weeks. Stack him with Perron and Neal in GPPs tonight if you are looking to go that route.
Pierre-Luc Dubois @ New York Islanders ($5600 FD)
Dubois has a goal in each of his last two games for the Blue Jackets. Great value play tonight as he is sooooo cheap and also a great stack with Panarin and Atkinson.
Top Winger Plays:
Jonathan Marchessault vs Chicago Blackhawks ($7400 FD)
Marchessault has been on a hot streak for the VGK over his last three games, managing 2 goals and 2 assists while also adding on 9 shots on goal. Great play tonight if you are looking to do a stack with March and Karlsson.
Brad Marchand vs Calgary Flames ($8300 FD)
As much as people like to trash talk Marchand, he is really good at the game of hockey. I love the Boston 1 line so much night in and night out. Great play tonight against the Flames if you are looking to pay high for a winger.
Cam Atkinson @ New York Islanders ($5900 FD)
I like the CBJ@NYI matchup tonight just because I expect it to be a high scoring affair. NYI give up the most goals per game this season but also score at a high rate. I like Atkinson and Panarin together in lines tonight.
Artemi Panarin @ New York Islanders ($6900 FD)
I like Atkinson and Panarin together in lines tonight. Going against the NYI as I said above who give up the most goals per game in the league as I said above. Great plays tonight.
Good Winger Plays:
David Perron vs Chicago Blackhawks ($6500 FD)
I really like the Knights tonight against the Blackhawks, who are struggling so bad this season. There playoff hopes are almost non-existent and I expect the VGK to destroy them tonight. Great line stack with Haula-Perron-Neal.
James Neal vs Chicago Blackhawks ($7200 FD)
As I said above he is great in a line stack with Haula-Perron-Neal. It is a less expensive stack than VGK 1 who I also like tonight against the Blackhawks. This line should find the score sheet multiple times tonight.
Nikita Kucherov @ Buffalo Sabres ($8900 FD)
Kucherov has three goals and four assists through his past five games, and he was also the driving force behind the Lightning’s comeback to tie the game 3-3 in the third period last night.
Anders Lee vs Columbus Blue Jackets ($6700 FD)
Lee is one of those fantasy players that I can never seem to get right. I do a line stack with him and Tavares but then he doesn’t do anything and then goes off the next game. Bob hasn’t been playing very well for the Jackets so I wouldn’t be surprised to see this being a high scoing game.
Value Winger Plays:
Joonas Donskoi vs Arizona Coyotes ($4200 FD)
Donskoi is another one I like with the Meier-Pavelski stack tonight against the Coyotes who are on the second of a back to back and are coming into this game after exerting a lot of energy in their game last night.
Carl Hagelin vs Ottawa Senators ($3900 FD)
Hagelin is super cheap and finds himself on the second line with Malkin. He has been playing some exceptional hockey lately and gives so much effort night in and night out. Great value play tonight against the Senators.
Timo Meier vs Arizona Coyotes ($4700 FD)
I really like the second line for the Sharks tonight against the Coyotes. It is such a cheap stack it is almost unbelievable. Great stack with Pavelski and Donskoi.
Brock McGinn vs Los Angeles Kings ($3600 FD)
McGinn finds himself on the first line tonight for the Hurricanes against the Los Angeles Kings. He is coming off a performance against the Avalanche in which he scored two goals and got 33 FD points. I look for him to continue that effort tonight against the Kings in order to keep himself on the first line.
Top Defenseman Plays:
Shayne Gostisbehere vs New Jersey Devils ($6800 FD)
I like the Philly boys tonight against the Devils. Gostisbehere has been one of my favorite defenseman who always seems to be relatively low owned. He should find the score sheet multiple times tonight along with Konecny and Giroux.
Seth Jones @ New York Islanders ($5600 FD)
Jones has been playing some great hockey for the Blue Jackets and is going into a matchup against the Islanders, who give up the most goals per game out of any team in the NHL.
Brent Burns vs Arizona Coyotes ($7500 FD)
Burns is one of the most consistent defenseman in the league when it comes to fantasy points. He always finds himself on the score sheet and he shoots the puck an extraordinary amount. Great play against the Coyotes.
Good Defenseman Plays:
Jared Spurgeon vs New York Rangers ($5700 FD)
Very good play tonight against the Rangers. As most people know the Rangers are on a downhill spiral. If you aren’t looking to pay up for the high priced Brent Burns, Spurgeon is a great play.
Shea Theodore vs Chicago Blackhawks ($3900 FD)
Cheap option tonight in nhl dfs with a great matchup against the Blackhawks. He always has the potential for some offensive explosion since he shoots the puck quite a bit per game.
Zdeno Chara vs Calgary Flames ($4400 FD)
Chara has a plus rating of 29 this season and even though he doesn’t provide much offensively unless he has an explosion one game, he provides good fantasy points by shots on goal and blocks.
Value Defenseman Plays:
Brady Skjei @ Minnesota Wild ($4600 FD)
Skjei has been moved up to the first power-play unit since the Rangers are making a number of changes on their team. Skjei is cheap across both platforms, and is also playing in his home state of Minnesota, so if you believe in that narrative, he could be a fun option.
Mark-Eduardo Vlasic vs Arizona Coyotes ($4800 FD)
Vlasic has 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 20 games since the New Year. Not to mention he also is filling the stat sheet by putting his body in front of the puck, as his 116 blocked shots ranks 13th in the NHL.
Olli Maatta vs Ottawa Senators ($4200 FD)
Consistent fantasy points night in and night out provided by shots on goal and blocked shots. He always has the chance to find the scoring sheet as well for the Penguins and in a great matchup tonight against the Senators, it wouldn’t surprise me if he finds it at least once.
Top Goalie Plays:
Devan Dubnyk vs New York Rangers ($8500 FD)
Dubnyk is 4-0-1 in his previous six appearances along with a 2.19 GAA. He is going up against a Rangers team who is selling at the deadline and is playing a lot of prospects. Great chance for Dubnyk to record his 5th shutout this season.
Matt Murray vs Ottawa Senators ($8600 FD)
Murray is 6-2-1 in his last 9 games for the Penguins and has been playing some of his best hockey. Great matchup tonight on home ice against the struggling Ottawa Senators. Definitely a top play.
Good Goalie Plays:
Marc-Andre Fleury vs Chicago Blackhawks ($8200 FD)
I have Fleury as only a good play tonight but truth be told I really like him tonight against the Blackhawks who are on a B2B tonight. They are an awful team this season and Vegas should have no problem with them tonight.
Value Goalie Plays:
Cam Ward vs Los Angeles Kings ($7600 FD)
Ward gave up just one goal on 30 shots against Colorado on Saturday and has been nearly unstoppable since taking over the starting job from Scott Darling managing a 10-5-2 record. He has a home ice matchup tonight against the Kings who have been picking it up as of late but still are not fully back to themselves. Should be a win for the Canes tonight.
Louis Domingue (GPP Only) @ Buffalo Sabres ($7600 FD/$
His record is awfully scary looking and his numbers aren’t great. Personally if I am going cheap on goalie tonight I would prefer Ward for the Hurricanes. If you want to risk it for the biscuit then Domingue is your guy. Only thing that helps is that the Sabres are still without Eichel. However they have scored 4 goals in three consecutive games. Strictly GPP only tonight.
My Favorite GPP Stacks Tonight:
