NHL DFS Breakdown (2/8)

Hello everyone, that was a fun 3 game slate last night and I hope you won some money! Tonight, we have a 9 game slate and some great matchups. Lock is at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT. I will list my top plays, good plays, and value plays for tonight’s games and if you want further details on plays then you need to be in our slack chat! Here are the 9 matchups tonight and their start times (Eastern Time):

NYI @ BUF 7:00pm
MON @ PHI 7:00pm
CGY @ NJ 7:00pm
VAN @ TB 7:30pm
NSH @ OTT 7:30pm
COL @ STL 8:00pm
ARI @ MIN 8:00pm
DAL @ CHI 8:30pm
VGK @ SJ 10:30pm

This slate looks great tonight. There will plenty of good options for you to choose from. As many of you know that read my articles, I recommend making multiple lineups with different stacks throughout them and you may get one lineup that scores super high and one that doesn’t do so well. If you don’t have the bankroll to play multiple lineups, I suggest that you get some exposure from as many of the games that you think will be the highest scoring. My favorite matchups tonight are NYI@BUF, VAN@TB, ARI@MIN, and DAL@CHI. At the end of the article, I will put down my favorite line stacks for the night. Now let’s move into the plays of the day!

Top Center Plays:

Jack Eichel vs New York Islanders

Eichel is one of my favorite plays tonight as he is going up against a Islanders team who loves to give up plenty of goals per game. The Eichel line has been one of the few bright spots this season for the Sabres who continue to find ways to bite themselves in the butt and leave games with a loss. Great matchup on home ice tonight though where they play much better.

Tyler Seguin @ Chicago Blackhawks

Dallas has won all three matchups against the Blackhawks this season and I don’t see that trend stopping tonight. The Blackhawks have not been very good at all this season and I foresee the Stars going into Chicago, taking care of business and leaving with a W. Love the Stars first line again tonight with Seguin-Benn-Radulov.

Mikko Koivu vs Arizona Coyotes

Koivu and the Wild have been on a roll lately and have put up some great offensive numbers against some powerful teams. Despite scoring just seven goals, Koivu’s been able to provide decent value thanks to 21 helpers and 11 power-play points. Great play in my book tonight against the Coyotes.

Steven Stamkos vs Vancouver Canucks

Stamkos is coming off a game where he recorded no stats and got 0 fantasy points, I expect him to come out firing tonight against the Canucks along. I love these two guys tonight as they should see some good PP time.

Good Center Plays:

Sean Monahan @ New Jersey Devils

Monahan has now scored in three straight games and played a key role in a home-and-home series sweep against the Blackhawks. I like playing him in lineups with Johnny hockey tonight against the New Jersey Devils.

Matthew Barzal @ Buffalo Sabres

I am not really on the Islanders tonight against the Sabres. I know they are very lethal offensively but I prefer taking the Sabres in this matchup tonight on home ice. If I am going to play anyone from the Islanders at center, I am taking Barzal over Tavares.

Value Center Plays:

Kyle Turris @ Ottawa Senators  ($5100 FD/$5500 DK)

Turris and the second line have been phenomenal for the Predators lately and I love stacking that line in GPPs (Turris, Fiala, and Smith) Great upside for these cheaper players and a great matchup against the Senators.

Paul Stastny vs Colorado Avalanche

Stastny is a cheaper first line center that also sees plenty of time on a lethal blues power play with Tarasenko. I really like them on home ice tonight against the Avalanche.

Top Winger Plays:

Vladimir Tarasenko vs Colorado Avalanche

Everyone is always scared to play guys going against the Avalanche now that they are hot. They aren’t on that hot streak anymore with all the injuries they have going on, so with that being said don’t be scared to play these guys because the Blues should kick some butt tonight against the Colorado Avalanche.

Jason Zucker vs Arizona Coyotes

Love the Wild tonight on home ice. Fire up the line stack with Zucker in it along with Koivu! They have been playing amazing together in their last few matchups and will most likely carry that into tonight against the Yotes.

Nikita Kucherov vs Vancouver Canucks

Everyone should have at least one line with Kucherov and Stamkos (Powerplay together)in it because I am expecting a great game for the Lightning against the Canucks team, who is 5-5 in their last 10 matchups.

Good Winger Plays:

Alexander Radulov @ Chicago Blackhawks

Anyone who knows me, knows I love my Dallas Stars and Alexander Radulov. If you are hesitant about playing Stars players but just want to get some exposure, Radulov is my go to for that. He is on FIRE and will continue to be in the near future. Great matchup against the Blackhawks tonight.

Alexander Steen vs Colorado Avalanche

I like the Blues tonight on home ice against the Avalanche who are still without Nathan MacKinnon. Steen has been a consistent fantasy contributor this season but continues to be relatively cheap on both sites.

Johnny Gaudreau @ New Jersey Devils

Gaudreau has 16 goals and 45 assists in 53 games for the Flames and is riding a three-game point streak and has only been held off the scoresheet twice since the beginning of January.

Jaden Schwartz vs Colorado Avalanche

Schwartz is one of those fantasy players who seems to go unnoticed by many. He has played exceptionally well this season and is averaging just over 14 FD points in his 35 games played for the Blues.

Craig Smith @ Ottawa Senators

Smith has scored double digit FD points in 4 of his last 5 games and has had some serious connections with Turris and Fiala on line two for the Predators. Good matchup tonight against a Senators team who struggles to win games.

Value Winger Plays:

Yanni Gourde vs Vancouver Canucks

Gourde is on the first line tonight for the Lightning in their matchup against the Canucks. I wouldn’t be surprised if he finds the score sheet more than once tonight. He has scored over 15 FD points in each of his last 3 games.

Alex Killorn vs Vancouver Canucks

Killorn has been playing some good hockey finding the score sheet 6 times in his last three games. Good matchup tonight on home ice against the Canucks.

Sam Reinhart vs New York Islanders

Reinhart has been scoring more consistently of late with three goals and seven assists through his past nine games, including scoresheet appearances in six of those outings.

Top Defenseman Plays:

Rasmus Ristolainen vs New York Islanders

Rasmus hasn’t played his best hockey over the last three games but holy smokes he plays a crap ton of minutes for the Sabres. He recorded 32 minutes against the Ducks two nights ago and I expect him to log around 27 minutes tonight against the New York Islanders.

Jared Spurgeon vs Arizona Coyotes

Spurgeon has double digit fanduel points over his last three games and shows no signs of stopping, especially in a game against the worst team in the NHL. I love Wild players tonight and if you want to play a d-man from them, spurgeon is that guy.

Roman Josi @ Ottawa Senators

Josi plays a ton of minutes for the Preds night in and night out. He is constantly making plays and setting people up for scoring chances every time he is on the ice. Great defenseman with some great offensive upside.

Good Defenseman Plays:

Nick Leddy @ Buffalo Sabres

Leddy has a goal in the last 2 games for the Islanders while also adding on 6 shots on goal and 2 blocked shots to his total. Buffalo isn’t a good team by any means and if Lehner isn’t on his game, expect to see Leddy on the score sheet.

John Klingberg @ Chicago Blackhawks

Klingberg has recorded 9 assists in his last 10 games while also adding on 12 blocked shots and 27 shots on goal. It’s been a while since Klinger has scored a goal and what better time to score one than against a division opponent. Not one of my favorite plays but I really don’t think you can go wrong with playing klingberg any given night.

Value Defenseman Plays:

Vince Dunn vs Colorado Avalanche

Dunn is a risky defenseman play tonight. He has a huge upside but there is also the chance that he doesn’t do anything at all. The reason I like Dunn is because he gets his body in front of shots and racks up the block totals which is a big fantasy point stuffer for defenseman.

Esa Lindell @ Chicago Blackhawks

Lindell is still on the first line and probably will continue to be like he has all season long. He is also on the first power play for the Stars which makes him very valuable at his super cheap price against the Blackhawks.

Top Goalie Plays:

Andrei Vasilevskiy vs Vancouver Canucks

Vasi has struggled since the start of the new year, managing a 2.99 GAA and .913 save percentage through 12 games. He has a favorable matchup tonight on home ice against the Canucks, who are 5-5-0 in their last 10 games.

Devan Dubnyk vs Arizona Coyotes

Obviously, this game is in the favor of Dubnyk and the Wild. The Coyotes are the worst team in the NHL and struggle to get anything going in the offensive zone. Dubnyk has won 3 of his last 4 starts including big wins against the Blues and the Vegas Golden Knights.

Good Goalie Plays:

Juuse Saros @ Ottawa Senators

Saros is 4-1-4 in his last 9 starts for the preds and has looked really sharp despite having 4 OT losses. He has a 1.69 GAA and a .950 save percentage in that 9 game span. Ottawa continues to struggle to find the back of the net and this is a good spot for Saros to prove himself even more.

Value Goalie Plays:

David Rittich @ New Jersey Devils

Rittich has played well when given the opportunity, managing a 2.23 GAA and .926 save percentage to go along with his 4-1-2 record. The Devils are scoring just 2.88 goals per game (tied for 20th in NHL) at home this season. He’s a cheap play tonight but more of a risk goalie so id keep him limited to GPP lines.

Robin Lehner (GPP Only) vs New York Islanders

Yes I know it looks scary to play a goalie against the Islanders but it is these risky GPP plays that help you take down the contest. He will face a lot of shots and if he has a stellar performance, I expect a good amount of fantasy points at his very cheap price. He plays much better at home with a .925 save percentage.

My Favorite GPP Stacks Tonight:

TB 1

TB 2
