NBA Value Plays 2/7: Tucker Set For Big Minutes
Good afternoon fellas, let’s get right into today’s value play:
PJ Tucker (SF: $3,900) – Ryan Anderson is banged up with an ankle injury and is questionable (or uncertain) as I see. I don’t expect him to suit up. Trevor Ariza is not expected to suit up as well. Tucker has played 30+ minutes in the last 4 games and if Anderson misses these minutes should be more than solidified. What I like about this spot for Tucker is that if Anderson misses he should see some more rebounds fall his way too. He has trouble putting up fantasy numbers on the court, but if Anderson misses he is a viable punt option tonight. If Anderson ends up playing, it will likely take me off of Tucker.
James Johnson (PF: $5,300) – I’ll be short and sweet here because Johnson doesn’t technically fit my mold for a value play, but only $300 over he is close enough. Kelly Olynyk is doubtful and Justice Winslow is questionable. James Jonhson in an up paced match up is already a decent spot to look, but with more minute security I like him even more. If both of these players miss, look for Johnson to play 30+ minutes and hit value.
JR Smith (SG: $4,100) – The Cavs are in a desperate need of a win tonight and with how poor their defense is they will need to put up a lot of points to get one. In order to get points they’ll need someone to step up and score the basketball! I like JR because his minutes are secure and because he can always light it up from 3. He makes a great tournament option that should come in low owned.
Rajan Rondo (PG: $4,800) – Rondo is a high risk high reward play. When he sees the minutes in spots like this, he smashes. The problem is Gentry just sometimes doesn’t give him the minutes. He has seen 18, 34, 24 and 30 minutes in the last 4 games and that type of inconsistency scares me away in cash. If he gets 30+ minutes he will smash and that is a risk I’m willing to take in tournaments.
Suns Front court – I fully expect Tyson Chandler to rest on the second half of a back to back. This will leave Alex Len ($4,600), Dragan Bender ($3,800) and Marquese Chriss ($4,800) to play all of the minutes. Of the 3, I am off Bender the most because he has trouble producing. If Chandler is out, we can project Chriss for 25+ minutes whom I would consider to be in the best spot. Chriss mustered up 27.7 FDP in just 19 minutes against the Lakers last night. This spot is much tougher against the Spurs, but Len could fall into those 30 minutes that Chandler played last night and Chriss could see an uptick as well.
Let’s cash! As always I’ll be in the slack before lock going over all the players news.
