NHL DFS Breakdown (2/2)
Welcome everyone! Small 4 game slate tonight and I’m not a huge fan of it. As many of you know, small slates means play light. Lock is at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT. In this article, I will detail my top plays, good plays, and value plays. I will include both Draftkings and FanDuel pricing for your convenience. Here are the 4 matchups tonight and their start times (Eastern Time):
WAS @ PIT 7:00pm
SJ @ CLS 7:00pm
DET@ CAR 7:00pm
VGK@ MIN 8:00pm
I can’t stress it enough, play light! My favorite matchup tonight is DET@CAR. At the end of the article, I will put down my favorite line stacks for the night. Now let’s move into the plays of the day!
Top Center Plays:
Evgeni Malkin @ Washington Capitals ($8300 FD/$7400 DK)
Malkin is on fire for the Penguins this season with 26 goals and 28 assists in 48 games played. He has 12 goals and 5 assists in his last 10 and he is one of my favorite expensive centers tonight against the Capitals.
Logan Couture @ Columbus Blue Jackets ($6700 FD/$6600 DK)
I like Couture tonight against the Blue Jackets who haven’t really found a groove this season. He is averaging just under 4 DK over his last 10 games and he should continue to be hot tonight on that first line.
Sebastian Aho vs Detroit Red Wings ($6700 FD/$6300 DK)
Aho has 6 goals and 4 assists in his last 10 games despite missing two games with an injury. I really like the Hurricanes tonight against the Red Wings rather than the Wings at the Hurricanes. Should be another good night for the Canes.
Good Center Plays:
Erik Haula @ Minnesota Wild ($6000 FD/$5800 DK)
Anyone who has read my articles in the past knows how high I am on this Haula line with Neal and Perron. I love this line so much and will consistently include them in my article if the matchup allows and tonight I like them more than the first line.
Alex Ovechkin @ Pittsburgh Penguins ($8800 FD/$7800 DK)
Ovechkin has been playing much better hockey over his last 10 games with 5 goals and 7 assists in that span. He’s not one of my favorite centers on this slate by any means but I wouldn’t be surprised if Crosby and Ovechkin both find the score sheet tonight against each other.
Sidney Crosby vs Washington Capitals ($9100/$7200 DK)
Just like I said on Ovechkin. Both have great potential to find the score sheet but I personally would recommend playing a line stack on another game or using a Malkin line stack. Crosby has 15 assists in his last 10 games and I wouldn’t be surprised if he adds to that total.
Mikko Koivu vs Vegas Golden Knights ($5700 FD/$4700 DK)
Koivu has been playing better hockey lately for the Wild as he now has a goal and 7 assist in his last 10 games. A matchup on home ice is much more promising for the Wild than the Knights who are much better at home than on the road.
Value Center Plays:
Pierre-Luc Dubois vs San Jose Sharks ($5500 FD/$4600 DK)
I would really only recommend playing Dubois in GPP contests only as his production isn’t really there but there is always a chance for him to have a great game and especially tonight on home ice against the Sharks.
Victor Rask vs Detroit Red Wings ($4600 FD/$4100 DK)
Rask actually has more goals than assists so far this season but I expect his assist totals to catch his goal total sooner rather than later. He is more of a playmaker rather than a goal scorer and I like his chances to find the assist sheet tonight against the Red Wings.
Top Winger Plays:
Jeff Skinner vs Detroit Red Wings ($5700 FD/$5800 DK)
Skinner is a great play tonight against the Red Wings and I think a lot of people will be leaning more towards the Detroit side of things tonight but I’d rather have the hurricanes in this matchup.
Patric Hornqvist vs Washington Capitals ($6100 FD/$6400 DK)
Hornqvist has been playing some of his best hockey lately with 3 goals and 3 assist in his last 10 games for the Penguins. If its not going to be your top players scoring like Crosby or Malkin, it’s probably going to be Hornqvist.
Good Winger Plays:
David Perron @ Minnesota Wild ($6300 FD/$5400 DK)
Love me some David Perron as you all know from my comments on Haula. Stack him, Haula, and Neal tonight against the Wild if you are looking for a cheaper stack. I’d prefer them at home but I still like their chances tonight on the road against the Minnesota Wild.
James Neal @ Minnesota Wild ($7400 FD/$6200 DK)
Just like I said above, I love this line and will continue to love it until they show me a reason to be off them. Such good teamwork with this line night in and night out. If you play multiple lines, they should definitely be one of your line stacks.
Nino Niederreiter vs Vegas Golden Knights ($5800 FD/$4500 DK)
Nino returns tonight after being out 8 games with an injury. He has 4 goals and the 3 assists in his last 10 games played before his injury and I fully expect him to slide right back into the action and find the score sheet tonight against the Knights.
Teuvo Teravainen vs Detroit Red Wings ($5500 FD/$5900 DK)
I like Teravainen and Rask together tonight on the second line for the Hurricanes. He has 2 goals and 5 assist in his last 10 games played while also adding on 25 blocked shots. Fairly good time on ice minutes as well for being a 2nd liner and not to mention, he is very talented just like Aho.
Value Winger Plays:
Tom Wilson @ Pittsburgh Penguins ($3900 FD/$3800 DK)
It seems anytime there are these small slates, the “no names” or “cheaper players” score all the goals and all three of these Value plays I have tonight are ones that might be those players. Wilson is very cheap tonight and skates on the first line with Ovechkin which always makes him very valuable.
Bryan Rust vs Washington Capitals ($3300 FD/$3300 DK)
Rust is on the first line with Sidney Crosby tonight against the Capitals and he is extremely cheap at only $3300 on Fanduel and Draftkings. Great upside tonight against the Capitals at a very cheap price.
Joonas Donskoi @ Columbus Blue Jackets ($4000 FD/$3400 DK)
Donskoi has played in 42 games for the sharks this season and really had a slow start to the season. He has really picked it up lately with 2 goals and 5 assists over his last 10 games while averaging 3.2 DK points in that span.
Top Defenseman Plays:
Brent Burns @ Columbus Blue Jackets ($7400 FD/$7200 DK)
Burns is an obvious must have tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Burns is averaging over 4.0 DK points in his last 10 games while managing 2 goals and 10 assists. He shoots the puck a ton for the Sharks and had 9 SOG in his last game which automatically makes him valuable for fantasy owners.
Kris Letang vs Washington Capitals ($5900 FD/$5500 DK)
Letang is on fire in the assist category for the Penguins with 26 in 50 games played. He shoots the puck a lot just like Burns and also gets some good amount of blocked shots to go along with it. Consistent fantasy points on a daily basis from Letang.
Good Defenseman Plays:
Justin Faulk vs Detroit Red Wings ($4400 FD/$4500 DK)
Faulk has played really well for the Canes lately and has been averaging over 3 DK points in his last 10 games. As I said earlier, I like the Hurricanes over Detroit tonight on home ice.
Seth Jones vs San Jose Sharks ($6000 FD/$5900 DK)
Jones is one of the few players that I would play tonight that is from the Blue Jackets. He is so consistent when it comes to fantasy points and is averaging just under 5 DK points in his last 10 games. Good play tonight against the Sharks.
Value Defenseman Plays:
Noah Hanifin vs Detroit Red Wings ($3700 FD/$4100 DK)
Super cheap defenseman on both platforms. He isn’t consistent but as hit price there is always a high upside. I like him tonight against the Red Wings, plus you can pay up for offensive elites.
Deryk Engelland @ Minnesota Wild ($3900 FD/$3600 DK)
Engelland will be a low owned defenseman tonight in this 4 game slate. He logs over 20 minutes of ice time every game and is a very valuable defenseman for the Golden Knights this season.
Top Goalie Plays:
Scott Darling vs Detroit Red Wings ($7400 FD/$8000 DK)
I really like the Hurricanes in this matchup on home ice against the Red Wings tonight. Darling hasn’t played good hockey this season but I think he will have a nice game tonight in order to prove to the team that he still has what it takes to be an elite goalie in the NHL.
Good Goalie Plays:
Martin Jones @ Columbus Blue Jackets ($8200 FD/$7400 DK)
Great matchup tonight for Jones against the Blue Jackets who only average 1.8 goals per game since the start of January. He has dropped his last 2 starts since his return from injuries but hasn’t really played that bad.
Value Goalie Plays:
Devan Dubnyk (GPP) vs Vegas Golden Knights ($8700 FD/7300 DK)
Dubnyk is strictly a GPP only goalie tonight in my opinion against the Golden Knights who have some of the best offensive power in the league. Much better chance for the Wild to win this game since they have the Knights on their own turf instead of playing in Vegas.
My Favorite GPP Stacks Tonight:
