NHL DFS Breakdown (1/23)

Hello everyone! We have an amazing 12 game slate on hand tonight with lock at 7:00 PM ET/6:00 PM CT. In this article, I will detail my top plays, good plays, and value plays. I will include both Draftkings and FanDuel pricing for your convenience. Now let’s take a look at the 12 matchups tonight and their start times (Eastern Time):

NJ @ BOS 7:00pm
CAR @ PIT 7:00pm
PHI @ DET 7:30pm
COL @ MON 7:30pm
TB @ NSH 8:00pm
OTT @ STL 8:00pm
FLA @ DAL 8:30pm
BUF @ EDM 9:00pm
LA @ VAN 10:00pm
CLS @ VGK 10:00pm
NYR @ ANH 10:00pm
WPG @ SJ 10:30pm

I love this slate tonight. So many great plays and value plays all over the place. From Colorado @ Montreal to Florida @ Dallas, I am so excited for tonight. Vegas on home ice is almost unstoppable so they are obviously a great play. Dallas on home ice is great as well. So my favorite matchups for tonight are CLS@VGK, NJ@BOS, OTT@NSH, COL@MON, and BUF@EDM. So much potential for some offensive explosion in this slate. Now lets move into the plays of the day!

Top Center Plays:

Patrice Bergeron vs New Jersey Devils ($8200 FD/$7400 DK)

Bergeron has 9 goals, 6 assists, and 29 Shots on goal in his last 10 games. He is averaging 6.0 DK points in that same span and with how hot the Bruins are, there should be no reason you don’t have him in at least one of your lineups tonight.

Nathan MacKinnon @ Montreal Canadiens ($8300 FD/$7800 DK)

MacKinnon didn’t have a very good game last night against the Maple Leafs but I look for him to rebound tonight against the Canadiens. He is averaging 6.9 DK points and 26 FD points over his last 10 games which is one of the highest in NHL DFS. One of my favorites tonight along with Bergeron.

Evgeni Malkin vs Carolina Hurricanes ($8500 FD/$7000 DK)

Malkin is averaging over a point per game (21 goals, 28 assists) this season and has been outstanding for the Penguins over his last 10 games managing 8 goals, 6 assists, and 25 shots on goal. Great matchup for him against the Hurricanes as well.

Connor McDavid vs Buffalo Sabres ($8900 FD/$7900 DK)

McDavid has a favorable matchup against a struggling Buffalo Sabres team and while his scoring has fallen off, he still remains a threat to register multiple points every time he takes the ice.

Good Center Plays:

Sidney Crosby vs Carolina Hurricanes ($9100 FD/$7100 DK)

Hard not to play Crosby tonight as he enters the game with a 7 game point streak including 5 multi point games. The Penguins should have their way with the Canes tonight who are ranked 22nd in defense.

Tyler Seguin vs Florida Panthers ($7700 FD/$7500 DK)

Dallas is 16-6-1 at home and 7-2-1 in its past 10 games. That being said I look for them to have a great home win against the Panthers and I like the odds that the number 1 unit will contribute a lot more tonight than last game.

Alexander Barkov @Dallas Stars ($7300 FD/$6700 DK)

Barkov should be a lower owned center tonight with his matchup against the Dallas Stars. He enters the matchup on a hot streak with 11 points over his last 10 games and is averaging 6 DK points and 21 FD points over that same span.

Value Centers:

Kyle Turris vs Tampa Bay Lightning ($4800 FD/$5500 DK)

Turris is a cheap option tonight at center if you are looking to pair a cheap option with one of the higher end expensive centers like Bergeron, Malkin, MacKinnon, etc. While he hasn’t had much production this year, Tampa is starting Louis Domingue in net making him more valuable.

Jason Spezza vs Florida Panthers ($4800 FD/$3900 DK)

Spezza has been on a tear for the Stars after being benched for a game a week ago. His 3 games after returning from being scratched he has scored 8,2, and 4.5 DK points. I like his chances tonight against the Panthers as he still finds himself on the top PP line.

Erik Haula vs Columbus Blue Jackets ($5600 FD/$5700 DK)

Who is better than Vegas at home? The answer is no one and they should continue that home hot streak tonight against the Blue Jackets and Haula is a good value pick to stack with Perron and Neal.

Top Winger Plays:

Brad Marchand vs New Jersey Devils ($7900 FD/$7400 DK)

Enters this game tonight on fire with 16 points in his last 10 with 5 multi point games and 32 Shots on goal. I’m continuing to ride the Bruins hot streak who have scored 4 or more goals during their stretch of 16 games with no regulation losses.

Vladimir Tarasenko vs Ottawa Senators ($8200 FD/$7300 DK)

Tarasenko has been consistent as of late with 9 points in his last games while adding on 34 Shots on goal. Against a 29th ranked Ottawa defense that is on a back to back and 3rd game in 4 nights, I really like him tonight.

Alexander Radulov vs Florida Panthers ($6800 FD/$6700 DK)

Radulov has played one of his best seasons in his career thus far. Entering tonight against the Panthers, Radulov has 6 goals, 9 assists, and 26 Shots on goal in his last 10 while averaging 5.2 DK points in that span.

David Pastrnak vs New Jersey Devils ($7500 FD/$6800 DK)

Pastrnak now has five goals and six assists in his last nine games, as he continues to bring energy onto the Bruins’ top line alongside Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron. He is coming off a 2 goal, 1 assist performance 2 nights ago and against a struggling Devils team, he is a great play tonight with his line mates.

Good Winger Plays:

Jamie Benn vs Florida Panthers ($7900FD/$7200 DK)

Benn is on fire for the Stars and has 4 goals, 9 assists, and 29 Shots on goal in his last 10 games while averaging 5 DK points and 18 FD points in that span. Love Jamie and Radulov together tonight.

Claude Giroux @ Detroit Red Wings ($7500 FD/$6200 DK)

Giroux hasn’t been able to get much going lately for the Flyers but I like his odds tonight against the Red Wings. I’m predicting him at around 17 FD points tonight and his price is one of the lowest you will find for him this season.

Max Pacioretty vs Boston Bruins ($7200 FD/$6100 DK)

Max Pac has been on a roll for the Canadiens even though they haven’t been hot themselves. He has 7 goals and 2 assists in his last 10 games while also adding on 36 Shots on goal. A matchup against the Bruins isn’t ideal but if anyone is going to find the score sheet tonight, it will be him.

James Neal vs Columbus Blue Jackets ($7200 FD/$5800 DK)

Neal is so underpriced on draftkings and would be considered a safe play tonight in this big slate. He has a goal in his last three games while adding on 35 Shots on goal. If you want to go the VGK route I would stack Neal with Erik Haula and David Perron.

Value Winger Plays:

Travis Konecny @ Detroit Red Wings ($4400 FD/$4100 DK)

What a streak he has been on for the Flyers. He now has 4 goals and 5 assists while also adding on 23 Shots on goal in his last 10 games. Konecny is on the first line with Giroux and that makes him so valuable.

Ryan Spooner @ Montreal Canadiens ($4800 FD/$4600 DK)

Spooner has played a large part in the recent success of the Bruins as he has managed 6 goals, 2 assists and 25 Shots on goal in his last 10 games. Favorable matchup against the Canadiens tonight and at his price, you could place him in with some higher end players.

Drake Caggiula vs Buffalo Sabres ($3600 FD/$4000 DK)

Caggiula is strictly a GPP play tonight against the Buffalo Sabres. His numbers are not good by any means but with a matchup on home ice against the Buffalo Sabres, this could be the game he finds the score sheet again. He  finds himself on the first line tonight.

Patrick Maroon vs Buffalo Sabres ($5800 FD/$5300 DK)

The Oilers have now won three straight games and Maroon has scored in each of them. Maroon is no elite offensive player by any means but he has scored 4 goals in his last 10 while adding on 2 assists. He also finds himself on the first line with McDavid

Top Defensemen Plays:

John Klingberg vs Florida Panthers ($6700 FD/$6300 DK)

Klingberg leads all defenseman in scoring with 46 points. He has 2 goals and 13 assists in his last 10 games while also adding on 23 SOG. My favorite defenseman play tonight!

Brent Burns vs Winnipeg Jets ($7500 FD/$7100 DK)

Burns is averaging 6.0 DK points and 21 FD points over his last 10 games with 1 goal, 12 assists, 14 blocked shots and 50 SOG. Yes FIFTY! You can’t go wrong playing Burns night in and night out.

Shayne Gostisbehere @ Detroit Red Wings ($5800 FD/$5600 DK)

Gostisbehere is averaging 3.6 DK points over his last 10 games with 2 goals, 4 assists, 14 blocks, and 29 shots on goal in that same span. Always love watching the Giroux and Gostisbehere connection which I think we will see a couple times tonight.

Alex Pietrangelo vs Ottawa Senators ($5900 FD/$6600 DK)

Pietrangelo has been playing great for the Blues lately and is averaging 4.2 DK over his last 10 games while managing 1 goal, 6 assists, an outstanding 28 blocked shots, and 24 shots on goal.

Good Defensemen Plays:

Darnell Nurse vs Buffalo Sabres ($4600 FD/$4500 DK)

Nurse is averaging 3.9 DK over his last 10 games and it wouldn’t hurt to pair him with Klefbom as your other defenseman. Both are fairly cheap options on both platforms. He is most valuable with his blocked shots where he has 29 in the last 10 and 84 on the season.

Ivan Provorov @ Detroit Red Wings ($5500 FD/$5300 DK)

Provorov has been providing consistent value this season with 9 points over his last 10 games while also adding on 30 shots on goal and 25 blocked shots. He also finds himself on the top pairing and powerplay unit.

Erik Johnson @ Montreal Canadiens ($5000 FD/$5400 DK)

Johnson Is still a fairly cheap option at defensemen and has been very valuable with 7 points over his last 10 games and 28 shots on goal while adding 25 blocked shots. He is averaging 4.4 DK points over that span too.

Value Defensemen Plays:

Colton Parayko vs Ottawa Senators ($4800 FD/$5500 DK)

I prefer Parayko in GPPs only tonight because I prefer having Pietrangelo at defensemen if I were to choose one from the Blues but Parayko can still find the score sheet from time to time and tonight may be that night against the Senators.

Josh Morrissey @ San Jose Sharks ($4300 FD/$3400 DK)

Morrissey is strictly a punt play tonight against the Sharks but he meets his value with blocked shots where he ha 29 in his last 10 games. He is a good option to put in at his super cheap price so you can spend up on top wingers or centers.

Top Goalie Play:

Tuukka Rask vs New Jersey Devils ($9200 FD/$8300 DK)

Rask has been on FIRE for the Bruins going 9-0-1 in his last 10 games allowing 2 goals or fewer in 8 of those games and has a 938% save percentage and one shutout in that span. Great play tonight against the Devils without Hall.

Carter Hutton vs Ottawa Senators ($8300 FD/$8100 DK)

Hutton has essentially forced his way into the starting role over Jake Allen and will make his eighth start in the last 10 games. He is 5-2-1 in those 8 starts and with a very favorable matchup against the Senators, he is a great play.

Good Goalie Play:

Mark Andre Fleury vs Columbus Blue Jackets ($8500 FD/$8100 DK)

Fleury has gone 7-2-1 over his last 10 games with a .954 Save Percentage and 2 shutouts. Against a Blue Jackets 28th ranked offense and on home ice, I like the odds of a great game from him.

Ben Bishop vs Florida Panthers ($8900 FD/$8400 DK)

Bishop has played great since returning from an injury. He has played in 13 games and he has a 1.97 GAA and a .931 save percentage. The Panthers are only 21st in goals per game, so this isn’t that tough of a matchup for Bishop, especially at home.

Value Goalie Plays:

Cam Talbot vs Buffalo Sabres ($7800 FD/$8200 DK)

Talbot seems to have finally gotten back into his groove in his last two starts, notching wins in both contests while allowing two goals in each. The Sabres are only averaging 2.33 goals in the month of January so this should be a fairly simple game for Talbot.
