NBA Plays of the Day – 12/30

  1. Plays are based on stats, opposition, and pricing.
  2. FanDuel and DraftKings prices listed respectively.
  3. Averaged 17-18 Season stats after player’s names.

• Point Guard

Goran Dragic – 16/4/4 [ $6,600 / $5,900 ] After missing some time with an injury, Goran Dragic has played well over his last 3 outings, putting up 28.3+ FanDuel points in 2 of those game. Dragic’s individual matchup, Elfrid Payton, owns a 113.0 defensive rating, allowing for plenty of upside, along with a relatively safe floor. As a team, Orlando ranks 24th in the league defensively.

Jamal Murray – 15/2/3 [ $6,500 / $6,200 ] With Emmanuel Mudiay seemingly out of the rotation, Jamal Murray has been playing a ton of minutes in the last 2 contests, and has put up solid production in that time. Tonight’s meeting with Philadelphia is a nice spot to target, as they struggle mightily versus point guards. Murray’s secure role and recent play, make him a great pick.

TJ McConnell – 7/4/3 [ 4,800 / $4,300 ] The Sixers are banged up and have Joel Embiid resting, as well as Robert Covington unlikely to play, which opens up opportunity for TJ McConnell. Over the last 2 games, McConnell has played 29 and 32 minutes, respectively, while producing 32+ FanDuel points. In light of his recent court time and lack of depth, he’s a solid value option.

• Shooting Guard

Tyreke Evans – 19/4/5 [ $8,600 / $7,700 ] Mike Conley is still out, giving Tyreke Evans more flexibility as the primary ball handler, and his 27.7% usage is very intriguing. Although the Warriors have the 2nd best defense, they do have trouble against point guards, which Evans should man. Memphis always gives Golden State fits, and if competitive, he could have a nice outing.

Donovan Mitchell – 17/3/3 [ $7,500 / $6,900 ] Donovan Mitchell has been a huge part of Utah’s game plan, especially with Rudy Gobert out, and tonight’s matchup against Cleveland is an excellent spot for him. Keep in mind that while he did struggle to produce much fantasy output in the first meeting, it wasn’t from a lack of scoring. He has a 28.2% usage and plays big minutes.

Will Barton – 14/3/5 [ $6,200 / $6,000 ] Over the last 2 matches, Will Barton has played a ton, with 36 and 33 minutes seen, respectively, in those games. Tonight he gets the Sixers, who have been torched by guards all season long, and Barton can do it on both ends of the floor, making him incredibly viable. His ability to fill the stat sheet and produce all over is key in this game.

• Small Forward

LeBron James – 27/9/8 [ $11,500 / $11,500 ] LeBron James is usually a fantastic play, but on his birthday, he’s an even better play against a tough team like the Jazz. In the prior meeting versus Utah, James provided a triple double, fueled by 29/10/11 in his 36 minutes played. I prefer him much more than Durant tonight, as Curry is set to come back and has an iffy game with Memphis.

Josh Richardson – 12/2/3 [ $6,500 / $6,500 ] Yet again, Dion Waiters, Justise Winslow, and James Johnson are expected to sit in tonight’s matchup against the Magic, making Josh Richardson one of the primary beneficiaries. Despite Richardson’s huge play time and ability, he hasn’t been priced up much and is still reasonable. Orlando has struggled against small forwards this year.

Taurean Prince – 12/2/5 [ $5,300 / $5,100 ] Last night, Tauren Prince exploded for 49.5 FanDuel points, backed by a 30/1/10 effort, and while I don’t expect that again, Portland hasn’t been great versus opposing small forwards. Prince’s 19.9% usage may not seem like much, but on a terrible Hawks team, he gets his touches. The Blazers are 5th defensively – expect low ownership.

• Power Forward

Anthony Davis – 25/10/2 [ $10,900 / $10,500 ] While most will go back to Cousins after last night’s monster game, I’m going to pivot onto the other big, Anthony Davis. On both sites, Davis is the cheap option, and the New York Knicks have actually been quite good at limiting opposing centers, despite Kanter’s horrible reputation. Don’t be afraid of KP, no one can stop “The Brow.”

Ben Simmons – 16/7/8 [ $8,700 / $8,300 ] Joel Embiid will not suit up for tonight’s meeting with the Denver Nuggets, which means Ben Simmons will see the bulk of the usage. Simmons’ ability to run the point and play at the power forward position, both of which give the Nuggets a difficult time, allow for a huge outing. Priced down and increased usage is pretty much a lock.

Derrick Favors – 12/6 [ $6,200 / $5,600 ] In his previous 4 games, Derrick Favors has performed well, and has put up back to back 30+ FanDuel point efforts, while playing under 30 minutes in both outings. This matchup with the Cavs is another nice spot for him to attack, as Cleveland ranks 29th in defense with a 108.7 team defensive rating. Could also be rather low owned.

• Center

Nikola Jokic – 16/10 [ $9,500 / $8,600 ] As mentioned above, Joel Embiid will be out for tonight’s game, which not only opens up the door for some 76ers, but also for Nikola Jokic, as Philadelphia struggles defensively without him. Jokic’s all around game makes him a tough cover and he has been playing well lately. With a slim front court, he should see a lot of action again, here.

Pau Gasol – 10/8/1 [ $6,800 / $7,000 ] Pau Gasol has been phenomenal over his last 3 matches, putting up 38.9+ FanDuel points, while managing to achieve at least a double double in all outings. Gasol’s play time has also been very consistent, playing a minimum of 25 minutes in that span. While Detroit is a solid defensive team, they have given up big games to centers as of late.

Jusuf Nurkic – 14/7/1 [ $6,100 / $6,800 ] My favorite play at the center position tonight has to be Jusuf Nurkic, as the Atlanta Hawks have been awful against opposing bigs, and rank dead last in defensive rebound percentage at 74.0%. Last game, Nurkic put up 21/12/1 against the Sixers and played 28 minutes. I get he’s not as sexy a play as some other guys, but his upside is sweet.

Extras: Ntilikina, Redick, Durant, Saric, Drummond.

*Napier is a solid play if Damian Lillard is ruled out.
