Frozen Core

NHL core plays brought to you by our Lead NHL Analyst @DFSManu. These articles will include 3 skater locks as well as multiple secondary choices to help you with construction of your NHL lineups.

Sean Monahan, C, $7,400:

Monahan is in a great spot tonight versus a tired Washington team, who will be playing their 3rd game in 4 nights on their Western Canada road trip. The Brampton native has done well against this opponent before, as he has posted 7 points in 8 previous games. Him, along with Johnny Gaudreau and Michael Ferland, undoubtedly make for one of the top line stacks on this short Sunday slate.

Other viable options: Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Bryan Little, Derek Ryan

Patrik Laine, W, $7,500:

Patrik Laine. If you know his name, you know his game. He’s a shooter. And, when your top sniper gets to shoot at an enlarged target, chances are, he won’t miss. That’s exactly what I see happening Sunday evening, when 6 foot goaltender Casey DeSmith and the Pittsburgh Penguins stroll into the MTS Centre to play the Winnipeg Jets. The Penguins continue to play at one of the highest paces in the NHL, which comes with a great deal of subsequent high-quality scoring chances for the opposition. Given that, and the fact that Laine has just been a little TOO quiet lately, I’m going out on a limb here and saying that the Finnish Sniper pots ATLEAST one goal tonight on home ice, where he strives.

Other viable options: Phil Kessel, Johnny Gaudreau, Jeff Skinner, Bryan Rust, Kyle Connor

Kris Letang $6,600, Dustin Byfuglien $5,800, John Carlson $5,200, Brandon Montour $4,300

Punting defense tonight is, simply put, just isn’t an option. As far as I’m concerned, the only guys you are picking from are the ones I have listed here.  The two things all of these players have in common is that they are all the Top Offensive Defensemen on each of  their respective team(s) and that they are the Power-Play Quarterbacks of PP’s in good spots tonight. Roll them out with confidence.
